I've had this argument way too many times before. I know where it'll go and what both sides will say, so I'm leaving it alone. :)

I don't wanna bash ya.

I don't understand this statement, are you implying that you always argue with Christian Texans, regardless of their denomination and are therefore stero-typing all Christian Texans?

I assume that this was not the intent of you verbage, only how it reads.

Nah, just the christian / anti-christian debate is all. Maybe I was stereotyping...but stereotypes exist for a reason...

Yes, they exist so ignorant people can have an opinion without having to actually form one themselves, based on the individual.

No they exist because a MAJORITY of people within the stereotype conform to it. Learn what the word means before you argue against it. I find that msot times it's the ignorant who throw around the word "ignorant" most often...

STEREOTYPE:

NOUN: 1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
2. One that is regarded as embodying or conforming to a set image or type.

Example - Elderly people drive slow and/or poorly.

Black people like hip hop and/or soul.

White people can't dance very well.

Politicians from Texas are murderous assholes.

See? It all makes sense. Thanks for playing.

You really should learn to read more carefully. I didn't define or suggest a defination of stereotype...you did that all on your own.

I simply stated WHY stereotypes exist.

Don't read what's not there....unless you have a pre-formed agenda which you will drive forth without regard for the actual statement made.

Now, if you've have already decided you want to have a flame battle, great...get on with your bad self. If you want to talk about your opinions and percieved stereotypes, then I'm all for that.

It appears you want the former due to your very overused and somewhat pubecent use of "Thanks for playing". But that's just my opinion based on my interaction with you.

No. You stated they exist so ignorant people can have a basis to form opinions. Nowhere in the definition does it say "see also 'vetoeq's opinion on this definition'". You're making things up. I realize that you're trying to take jabs and being passive aggressive, but that shit doesn't impress me. and this is where you reply, "I'm not trying to impress you". And then I tell you "That's good, because you're a long way off". And then you spout off something else that is not a fact but, really, just your opinion.

FACT: Stereotypes exist because a majority of people within that stereotypew conform to it's description

How do you think profiling works in murder cases? Stereotyping.

Are those detectives ignorant because they follow a stereotypical lead? I wouldn't think so.

I have better things to do with my time than dance around this debate with you. We'll never see each other's point of view since you love god and I think the idea is a crock of shit. And really...that's where all of this stemmed from. I'd tell you to have a nice day, but really. I don't want you to.

Praise Jesus.

Thanks for uninformed stereotyping, but I'm not a Christian, nor do I have much admiration for the modern western Roman-Catholic interpretation...in a term you seem to enjoy: "Thanks for playing."

And I actually hope you have a decent day.

So you have some sort of deep seeded hatred of people from California? My goodness...that makes me cry. Those poor Californians.

No I don't hate all Texans. I don't hate all of anyone. There's always exceptions.

Sometimes I'm just really cranky, but ya know? It's Friday and I love you, the Californians, George Bush, and Jesus too! Okay not George Bush....or Jesus....but I think you're pretty okay.

I got a long weekend and beer to drink, so I better get outta here and get to it. Have a good weekend and if any of you are in the states, don't blow any limbs off on the 4th. Lata...

Wow...
I'll never get forums...
somebody says something perfectly reasonable like "stereotypes exist for a reason" and people just decide to get militant.

Lets face it, Stereotypes exist because people of particular regions formed particular habbits because of culturual mingling. This is simply due to the fact that people who spend a lot of time together learn similar traits- fathers teach sons, etc.
Culture then spreads, and with it, other people in the community learn the same examples.

Regions, formed from other orgins, in different enviroments form different methods of handling situations.
Simple.
what happens then?
well, since mankind is Stupid, and likes to pick fights, they Missuse general knowledge, make assumptions, and ACT LIKE MORONS ON THE FORUMS.

I think thats pretty clear.

Either way, I just have to say, Not all texans are idiots, but, I can think of a few who might support Fight pickers- I'm not naming names, I'm just mailing bags of pretzels.

But, hey, he's not actually texan, he's from massachussets...

Look, I know people get riled up over anything that could possibly remotely resemble prejudice- i'm just saying look into it better- especially since poor judgements have already been made in this country's name for the sake of POORLY ASSUMED STEREOTYPES *Cough war on terror cough*
but thats ANOTHER Debate,
just, for the sake of the 4th.
Can't we all just get along?
