Oh my, that person is meticulous. Names, phone numbers, great grand mom's maiden name from the 1400s... (not really...) but jeez... this person is ready to lop off some heads... I hope this thing gets cleared up really soon...

Reading the first page alone these people are fired up...

Personally I had to laugh. Stupid EQ people take the game way to seriously. It's a fucking game you jerkoffs. OH NOZ!!!! HE STEALD MY UBER CARTOON GEARZ!!11!!

What he did was wrong, but these people take that shit way too seriously.

When you invest 3+ years and like 360+ $ (monthly fees for EQ) it's more than just "OH NOZ!!!! HE STEALD MY UBER CARTOON GEARZ!!11!! ". It's an actual time investment that's stolen and time is property.

For real man. That's way too scary, because I could see all these pasty mofos camped out around his house "regening their mana" until he comes out, then their big fat fighter guy (with dorito stains on his used-to-be-white t shirt) would run up and try to pull him from his house.

The fat chick (who thinks she's a hawt elven ranja (with much huffing and puffing) would pull herself up off the ground and then promptly die of cardiac arrest...well the ranger has to die somehow.

Meanwhile image is like "WTF are you pasty fat bastards doing out here?" (because he doesn't see the pencil thin uber-geeks behind the fatties who begin casting manaburn...except they can't cast anything and just end up wetting themselves from straining too hard)

Turns out that as soon as image comes out with a bat, the lawn clears off pretty quick and the nerds go home and farm some more plat and cyber with their toons...

I think it is pretty much confirmed it was him selling the accounts... but he does have a good defense... he said he was selling them for someone else... which means he didn't steal them... he only sold them... not too much of a crime... I just can't believe the amount of work that one person is doing to hunt him down... I think they are on the verge of really going to his house... but after the lady said she called Image she sorta cooled down... dunno... would be nice to hear from Image, though :P

The courts dont care if he knew they were stolen or not, its like driving around in a stolen car that was given to you by a friend to borrow. Probably a bad analogy but same point I guess.

I am not 100% sure on that but as far as I know thats how it works.

He's lucky he didnt have a record. I saw a post similar to this, where the guy stealing/selling accounts was a convicted child molester. Once that info was posted, the server went nuts. Wish I still had the link.

The lesson here...you are not anonymous on the internet, no matter how hard you try.

Hate to inform anyone here that has been following that.

1) Cant goto jail for selling EQ accounts, Stolen or not. Origanal owner would have to prove the acct is his. If he did, be hard to sell the account in the 1st place right?

2) image is fine I speak with him daily.

3) I think we all know how anti hacker image is. nuff said right there.

This is from the other board, and made me wonder. If the person supposedly tracking image down is merely another EQ user, how would she get his IP without either hacking into the GuildWars website (unlikely, and a Federal crime if so) or being more than she's letting on? Call me paranoid, but I smell an SOE false-flag op here.

Anyhow, for my $0.02, selling accounts/equipment/plat/whatever you legally acquired is legal (and IMHO moral), but scamming people obviously isn't. I have to assume that we'll get to the bottom of this in due course...

My apologies that it is being brought over into EQEMu territory. I have offered to help them recover their accounts and theres not much else I can do about the issue. I assure you I did not steal the accounts, I haven't even had time to really focus on EverSide. These people are just looking to point a finger, they even pointed a finger at my former boss, these people do not know what they are talking about.

Just to clarify... my posts weren't to say Image is in trouble :P you can't mess with <points to Image's CoH avatar :P>
I was trying to emphasize the amount of work that person is doing to hunt people down... phone numbers... houses from 5 years ago... neighbors... social security numbers... what they ate 20 seconds ago... as long as Image has worked it out I suppose all is well :) except the people with the account had a scare... and SoE has been good about account restores after events like this... so they should be fully repaired in no time.

SOE stated at the guild summit that a huge chunk of their CS time is spent chasing down scams/hacks... keep the folks that pull these stunts in mind next time you're waiting hours on end for an answer to your petition. (That is, if you still play eqlive)

I read it all... They got no life and no respect... Plain and simple... They want to blame someone so they can benefit from someones misfurtune... ITs not enough to just get items returned they want to cause mental anguish for the person they beleive to be at fault... I do hope logic hits them before they get themselves killed by some internet maniac one of these days that searches them up and instead decides to greet them with a axe...

Wizard's First Rule... People are stupid!

Actually i believe its the second rule we are looking at here,

the greatest harm can come from the best intentions

this Ryn or what not person is crazy bitch indeed, she/he claims or believes more so, that they are helping people, but in turn she is causing image a hassle, and probably some unwanted Fan-mail in his email box.

what i didn't understand was how does this person know they are real accounts in the first place? i mean after all it could just be someone selling accts that don't exist!! It has been done in the past and i am sure it will be done in the future.

Well my $.02 as it were is this, who cares, whats done is done, Life is the future not the past. (God thats two quotes from that damn series i have made now) If it was him, oh well, we all do stupid things, and often our success rate in some can lead to trying others.. i really don't know where i am going with this, so i will just stop while i am ahead and say ....

Eh.. it sucks but shit happens.

P.S. If you going to respond to my post with somthing stupid like, well you wouldn't be so "Eh" about it if it was you.

Let me just answer that post right now...

I come from a family of a ratio of 10/1 jewish women to jewish men, my mother has 5 sisters all of who have influenced me to do one thing in life... Spend money you don't have..

I have been burned in the past. on several occasions, but you know what? Life is a bitch and then you die.

So Deal with it.

this is just my opinion...
if someone is dumb enough to BUY with REAL money game items they are just plain stupid. wtf?! why would you waste your money on buying items in a game? if you buy that stuff you should be expecting to get scammed.

Charmy
07-07-2004, 05:52 PM
Ahh the age old question, why trade billions for bytes?

And the answer? who knows, but i am guessing you have played eqlive before comming to the emu yes?? Did you not wish you could own alot of the items auctioned in the bazzar/market channel?

People are drawn to power (be it real power or power in a game) Buying platinum gives you that power (even more so on the FV server where nothing is no drop). A Person on FV named Shanana sells thousands of dollars in plat a day, now i have yet to see a single negetive response about her, but the point is he/she makes big bucks selling plat, and people will pay her outragous prices just to go right back and buy the gear she has for sale (mostly VT, Elemental, Time, and a few GoD) Since she is the only one with this kind of gear for sale she never loses the plat she sells... a scam perhaps? hmm well they are getting items in return for the plat, but still... hmm and with the prices on her items these are as was said in an earlier post, not simple small transactions, they are thousand dollar transactions...

I personally won't pay a dime for somthing that isn't material, i may spend money i don't have, but not on somthing that won't end up paying for itself in the end.

You can't do anything about the scammers out there, they exist and they have since the begging of time, everything from hawkers, to outlaws.. As it was once said...

Wherever there is water there will be mud.

I agree that it is ridiculous to spend real money for game items. Alas, I was sooo adicted to EQ at one time that I spent $500 on items ranging from the Lammy & Wurmy to the Fungi Tunic. I had a plan and thank God it sort of worked out. I bought the items to help me get to a certain level. Once I reached the mid 30s (36 to be exact). I got bored and began the process of leaving EQ. What I did was to sell off the items I bought from playerauctions and a few other items. In the end I made around $700 or perhaps $900 as $900 rings a bell when I think back to then. This was years ago, but it was cool that I managed to basically rent some items then get my money back and then some when I was done using them. :) Grant it, I still agree that this is lunacy, but then again, the adiciton to power, be it real or fantasy is a powerful force to some. :)

Having affiliations with this community and friends on that Live server, I'm deeply disturbed that the EQEmu project has been dragged into the matter, and I would suggest that everyone try to keep their composure and stay out of matters which do not involve them.

These people who "take this game too seriously" (paraphrased) have partially provided YOU with a very nice/up-to-date item database, high-end zone spawn data, AA info, etc. They do take this game seriously at times, as do I sometimes. To ridicule them, or anyone, because of this horrible event and your "opinion" of it is unjustified. Most of these people have nearly a YEAR of played time invested. If you lost a year's worth of work, you'd be upset also. That's a lot of time, energy and money invested and ironically, they're being name-called and judged by some people who play the same game (for free) using data that many of them helped collect.

I cannot and will not point fingers. I don't know the entire story nor have I heard any explanations to some unanswered questions regarding image's involvement. It may be unfortunate that he was unknowingly taking part in this activity or he may have been completely aware. That's not this community

If I lost a year's worth of WORK, yes. If I lost a year's worth of PLAY I'd have to really reconsider my priorities in life...

I played EQ Live a LOT. It was a huge waste of time playing it hardcore. Was it fun? Sure. Do I wish I had spent that time doing somethign else? Sure.

Maybe you don't feel bad now that you realize what a timesink and waste of valuable time it was, but I'll bet you would have had a different opinion when "I played EQ Live a LOT."

I have a retired toon with over 200 days played and I wish I had spent that time otherwise, but I realize what impact having my account stolen would be while I was active.

I would venture to say that if someone stole whatever you are currently working on, whether it turns out to be a wise investment of time later or not, you would not react so glibly.
