I just read an article where a bunch of older games were shown to kids to get their reaction. (article here: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=0&cId=3137498 )
First, it made me feel my age (in a big way), but it also made me wonder why we get attached to certain games and what others might think of them. So, just for fun, I figured I'd start a thread about what games hold some special meaning or nostalgia for us.
I've been a video junkie for ages, but I'd have to say my all-time favorite game is Robotron. Williams Electronics had a team that was truly inspired and they consistently made games that were fun to play. For me, Robotron was the best -- it was fun, addictive, and it flat-out kicked your ass. Every time you plunked in a quarter you knew you were in for a serious butt-whooping, but it was still fun. Whenever anyone asks me if classic games were any good I always point them at the insanity that is Robotron :P

Bobby: You can get an NES and get games like Donkey Kong Jr. Math.
Garret: So you'd really spend your money on Donkey Kong Jr. Math?
Dillon: No, you find them, or people give them to you.
Dillon is a warez user... you can tell.
Bobby: And because people were stupid and like addictive games. People were like, "Wow-such good graphics! I mean, they got a dot with a key. Woooh!"
They're making fun of EQ, YOU CAN TELL!

Pac-man ruled :D
Anyone know if there's ever been a "pvp" pac-man made? Ie, somebody controls Pac-Man and 1 to 3 of you control the ghosts? That'd be kinda cool

harvest moon on snes has gotta be up there.. the best 2p game of all time is super mario world. Gradius 3 is the best of its kind, legend of the mystical ninja is the best platform game ever, but all around best game ever, was FF7.
secret of mana is like one of the worst rpgs ever.. the only reason it gets any credit at all is for being the only 2player rpg-ish game on snes. the story was like the generic go get 4 shards in the world to make the mana sword complete.. the rpg sucked but the good part about it was it was hardand the fighting was really intense.. the boss's were near freaking impossible. but as far as rpgs go on snes.. SoM doesnt even compare.
harvest moon is most fun old game i've played~
all you RPG fans, go play Suikoden II for the playstation, probly the best unheard game ever. Much better than any other suikodens by far. Its unlike most rpgs where you get only 3-10 characters, in here you can get 108 characters, including a hidden character which is a flying chipmunk with a cape that bounces off trees to do damage.
Worth like 50+ hours of fun. Full of rpg battles, an amazing storyline, characters gathering, Castle building, and a pretty fun real time strategy like War system (note: not the battle system, the suikoden battle system is much like the FF7 system, but instead of materia you use runes). Also full of some really weird mini side games, like a story line where you must defend your friend honor ... by cooking, or mabye climbing a rope contest, or even just playing whack-a-mole to keep the moles out of your farm so you can grow more food for your armies.

Half-life 2 best game hands down.
Next would be soldier of fortune 2.
i couldnt get into half-life2 =( was a combination of how story and nifty scripted events were there one second, then all the sudden techno music starts and its just a straight on killfest followed by running around looking for the next place to go gameplay, then i tried to kill abunch of npcs and they were unkillable i was like wtf -_- i was in the sewer part after the helicopters chase you and you fight 100000 of those camera things. was i just at a bad part? i went back and played half-life one over again =/ kept me much more entertained for some reason.

My favorite would have to be Final Fantasy 7 - it's got everything I love, fighting against evil corporations and crazy guys with white hair!
But a close second would have to be Super Mario RPG - that was one of the greatest RPGs ever made, and I wish Square would make a new one...=D

Yes, ff7 is the only game me and my friends can still have argueements over its plot to this day, like 8 years later. Does cloud love aeris or tifa? what/who is sephoroth cloud and zack?
Super Mario RPG, id have to agree, this game was great. my second favorite to ff7. In japan Paper Mario is called Super Mario RPG2. The problem is its painfully obvious when playing Paper Mario is not developed by squaresoft.

First of all, you're awesome because of your handle. I love Home Movies - it is quite possibly my favorite show on television. Not many people like it, and that's got to be because it's "Intelligent" comedy ^.~. I played through the first Paper Mario and could tell immediatly it was not developed by Square (Pppphhttt...) I do, however, enjoy Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga. It's a very funny and entertaining game.
