Seeing that 6.1 is still being beta tested for probably a few more days, there's no need to release a compiled version due to many bug fixes the devs are still working on. Be patient and the release will come, bug them and we could end up waiting forever. :(

When the devs think enough bugs are fixed for a public release, we'll see one. There's no use questioning the release date though...could be as soon as tomorrow or as far out as never.
I'm not trying to sound like an ass or anything, just letting you know the actual release date of 6.1 is as predictable as a tornado...could hit anytime.

There are some compiled versions out there. Post a request on the bottom of the post near the top in Windows Servers about a problem with DR1 and someone will probably give it to you.
And yeah, the devs are working on fixes, so the release will be nowhere near perfect, but it'll allow you to help test out on your local network. =)

Since i see that you all are already discussing this topic I thought I would add my 2 cents in on questions. I am kinda curious about a couple of things myself. The first being a.)Is 0.6.0 DR2 the best one to run on for the time being? b.)I have tried getting the 0.6.0 DR3 to work and it gives me the error from the character creation screen Zone does not Exists whatever the heck that means since all the zonefiles and zoneconf and the zonepoints are all loaded in makes no sense to me. Also c.)I used the CVS to grab all the files and instead of compiling the server because I am such a noob that I cannot figure out where to compile it on my Visual Studio yet.... I just sourced in the 0.6.1-update.sql and the 0.6.1Upgrade.sql but nothing changed I am not stupid here I guess it is because I dont know how to compile yet and that is a major part of getting that up and running correct??
Now for some really noobish crap.
1.)Do I need to start from scratch and load in the very first release 5.8 classic then upgrade to the PEQ_Kunark expansion then upgrade to the Velious load_system.sql version. Or can you just start from no DB and go straight to Velious. I saw no posting on this anywhere and I was very curious if I go straight to Velious if I am missing anything from the earlier parts of the EMU.
2.)What files exactly are needed to run DR3??
3.)What exaclty is Drop_system.sql and Drop_users.sql used to do for the velious expansion??
I only ask these questions because there is no one really putting out from start to finish tutorials from beginning of EMU existance to now so noobs are kinda coming into an A & B conversation only we dont want to C our way out :) Thanks for putting up with all our noobish crap :)

Okay, 6.0DR2 is the last stable release if I understand everything correctly.
1. You should be able to jump right into Velious with the load .sqls in the velious download.
2. Pretty much the same files as DR2, just newer compiles.
3. Those are for people upgrading from an older database to the new one.
Basically, the theory for sourcing in a complete velious database is to use only the load .sql files. If you're upgrading from an older one, source the drops, and then the loads. Neat system really.

people can still connect to my server and play though right?

Yeah, as long as they've updated to the version of EQ that works with 6.1 (I'm not sure if EQ has patched since this became "Live Compatible").
