Title pretty much says it all...... Was curious if it was at all possible to play EQ single player offline....without servers once so ever.... sure the areas would be empty but I was just curious...

You could edit the tutorial program that comes with the original game (I don' t know if it comes with the current version) to load your own zone. You would have to be named Soandso, you could only walk, and the NPCs would be all the NPCs from the tutorial.

It would be less work and better just to set up or play on an EQEmu server.

Yes you could definately make a single player version of EQ
and as long as you had a stable platform built up , if you had
the time and the will you could make it just how you wanted it. You should go for it man ! the only problem you'll have is getting a correctly patched version of EQ (pre 5/11) if you're not sure what version you have or what to do , search the forums for EQ version check. And you should be good to go with some of the great new tutorials out !

Greetings,

First things first, you have to know what version of everquest you have before you go randomly trying tutorials out :D. This will just save you weeding through errors that are caused to a weird patch issue. So what I recommend is to search the forums for a program called EQ version check, run it as per the i nstructions it has w/ it, and it will tell you which version of the EMU to use w/ your version.. At that point, you need to just search in the tutorials forums, for setting up a server w/ the version the version check told you to use !
Also , bad news, if you've j ust recently played live EQ .. you probably don't have a playable version and will just have to wait for a further release that works with your version of everquest.. What i suggest doing now is at least backing up your current eq directory for future use w/ the emulator !! good luck and any more questions i'll try to help.. except that i'm very new as well .

Greetings,

Anythings possible in the mind of crazy man :D. This guy whoever he is is in fact, unable to play EMU! and you can kinda get a reason why he might just be telling a tall tale when he entions anything involving EMU/EQ and "10 years.." it's not 2009 is it? didn't think so :D

Didn't know EQ was around for tens years to my knowledge its only been around for 7 or 8 years I played EQ after kunark first came out back in 1999 or 2000 don't remember the year exactly.

So i'd say this guy is Full of S&%$ in my opinion.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and thinking he means he formats his drive every 3 months for the last ten years... obviosly before EQ was an issue and he just worded it in a way to make it seem he was saying that he has been playing eqemu for 10 years.

eq was released in 1999.. so it was not out for 10 years.

That might be a very interesting project to create a single player of EQEMu. With all the potential and ressources EverQuest has, we could make a 100+hours single player game, if not more.

Thatd be incredibly fun. Pick a race/class and it could possibly be a huge Epic Quest. Only problem, wouldn't you need a server box for it?

Magoth78

Yes and that's not necessary a problem because if you want to invite a friend in your adventure, you'd need to have a dedicated server.

Running mysqld/perl/world and 1 or 2 zone instances + EQ client is easily doable on most computers.

This would probably be a project better implemented in our own client though, if that ever comes.

Does anyone accually KNOW how to do it? I have tried before, and ran into countless errors..

If anyone knows how to accually setup on offline single player EQ game, im sure it would be greatly appriciated if you wrote a tutorial.

Thanks

The best way would most likely be to go through the server install (server pack via Dark Rogue Projects) then start a character and if you have two computers you could two box a healer and melee.

TADA singleplayer EQ.

I've tried to do this but my problem occurs with login errors that don't allow both of my computers to connect, but basically thats what you would do or make one character and pimp out your gear.

If someone could release some code to allow a cleric pet or such that would cast heals when the master is getting low on HP that would make single a lot easier, but I have no idea how to do that stuff.

Single player mod means a full story, the ability to have one or more NPC member in your group (AI controlled), a full custom content that scales with story (and your group power), some very interesting quests etc... not just by having a PEQ db installed on a server with you and your bot...

That's a lot of job, quests, database, balacing and coding. Being able to have a NPC grouped that's following you, fighting for you, healing you and others group's member, mezzing the adds etc... would be the hardest thing to do. And in fact, I even don't know if that's possible... or if it is, that should take a while before everything get coded.

Finally, that's a lot of work for the minority of coders who're still there I guess..

I don't even remember posting here... :(

Well anyway, like Magoth was saying if we did the single player version it would not be like you DL a DB and box two chars and just quest. It would be a story set in EQ and you meet NPCs along the way and they help you. Kind of basic, but with the basic client of EQ you have a lot of pottential to build on.

Ok... I have been thinking this over. I think I have a way to make this happen I am just gonna need a little help. I think I have someone besides Magoth that will help but if anyone reading this can help with designing a client that we can put the finished product in so that people who want to play it do not have to setup a server.... just let me know.

Appearantly you've never played morrowind, no groups whatsoever.
