View Full Version : RouterFix Confusion

Okay, I've setup my no-ip.info account, and have the dynamic updater running. Then I came to the next part and have opened up the hosts file and am trying to figure out what changes to make.

The RouterFix instructions say the following:

"Also after doing this use the dns address for your worldserver address as well as you zoneserver address. Replace all the 127.0.0.1 with your DNS address. After doing this bothe people from outside your router as well as yourself will be able to log into server."

So if my IP address was currently (for example) 65.76.87.166 does that mean I should set the change to the following?

65.76.87.166 localhost
65.76.87.166 dragonnest.no-ip.info

This is confusing me because my IP address is dynamic (kind of the whole point of all this) and it won't likely apply the next time I log in. So what is the effect of specifying it here?

Perhaps my confusion lies in not being sure what is meant by "worldserver address" and "zoneserver address". Should I be using the "Server IP Address" that shows up when I look in my connection status details, or "Client IP Address" (which I believe is the dynamic one)?

Anything you can say to help clarify this would be appreciated.

While I'm at it, if I save the modified file from note-pad, won't it automatically append the .txt to it? Would that have a negative effect on what it's supposed to do?

If you have been running without a router then you should have your external Ip address (from what is my ip)already set up in login config and DB.ini. If that is the case then replace them with your no ip.info account. Localhosts will remain the same.
If you modify text with notepad and save. It will save as the file you loaded if thats what you mean..It wont save DB.ini as DB.txt unless you want it to.

Heh, I'm sorry. I appreciate the response, but can we please pretend I don't really know a great deal of that means?

If I have been running what without a router? EQEmulator? No, just signed up for it today. EQ? Yes, I was running that, and am running other MMORPGs atm.

"external IP address (from what is my ip)", I'm not sure what that is referring to. Is the an article somewhere here called "what is my IP?". What's the difference between my external IP address and normal (as assigned to me by my ISP) IP address?

Where do I find the login config and DB.ini files to examine and modify them (I'll do a search, but if you know more precisely...).

I'm sorry to be such a pain, but really most of these things went over my head in school and they still do.

Edit: Just did a search. The system could not find a file called db.ini on my hard drive.

OK..Sorry..Lets first find out what you want to do..Play the game? Run a server online? Play the game by your self using minilogin? ect..

I just want to play the game. Let me guess, all that effort I went through to set up the no-ip account was unnecessary if I just want to play and am not worried about hosting a server? (That would be par for the course, actually).

Don't know anything about minilogin.

Okay, backing up.

A couple of my friends have been playing on EQ emulators and I though I'd look into it. I found this site and registered, then followed the instructions for setting up. When I ran the game it got stuck, and looking through the forums I determined I had used the wrong path number. So I changed it and was able to get to the server selection screen.

However, when I selected a server I was getting a 1017 error (with fire-wall turned off). I looked through some of the threads to find a discussion on this and in one of them it was recommended to sign up for the no-ip.info if you have dynamic IP address (which I believe I do as I log into my DSL after I turn my computer on and my IP address changes each time).

However, after having done all that, I tried the 0.6.1 server and was abgle to log in, but not in the 0.6.2. This tells me that I need to update my client, but I don't know how to do that either (I posted the question in another thread).

That being said, I have already modified the originally mentioned hosts file, and now am concerned that I shouldn't have (or did it incorrectly which might mess things up later). So the original question still stands...what should I be setting the IP addresses to in the hosts file?

Yep..You dont need no-ip to play.
So your eqhosts file should look like this.

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5998

And all you can play is that one server. Or you can find other servers that might work. But you have to discover them on internet.

Minilogin is a way to play the game strictly offline. You can run your own offline server.(6.1 type) Or create your own and put it online. But you have no 6.2 client so you cant play those. No matter what you will always get 1017 error.
