Fairly new to these forums, site, & concept so sorry if not placed in proper thread. Just wanted to let know incase any cared & not knew: Sony(SOE) announced they are killing off the Stormhammer(Legends) Premium flagship server i think Feb. 1st '06. i've recently quit EQ as of a few weeks ago anyways. Sort of sad, but might be foreshadowing of the horizon for Sony's EQ.
Seperate issue, as mentioned i fairly new here, but if i only have Platinum Edition with updated patch i understand i cannot connect(i tried of course & had a meet & greet with the Error code 1017). What if i completely reinstall my Platinum & not update patch, could i play then? Would be nice to see zones i never got to see when trying to play with Sony, & of course the dream items. Anyways much thanks if anyone could maybe tell.

How to play is in the wiki guide :
http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage
1017 error is perhaps make by client version error :
see "DO NOT PATCH ON 9/13 OR LATER - 9/13 EQ Patch Breaks 0.6.2 (Which we are freezing on)" in red on the top of forum(http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=DoNotPatchWarning).
For sony, this is clear, since EQ2 is come, they want all customers on EQ2...
Step by step, they stop EQ, but EQ2 is'nt the best game like EQ in 1999, too many mmorpg now are very good...

Good news: When EQLive dies, the Emulator devs can finally catch up to the current patch and release a 9/13 compatible version!
Bad News: Patch now or never, when EQLive dies, we cannot patch up to date.

I doubt Live ever dies...the same thing was said about uo and they are still kicking.

If EQLive dies it's going to be awfully hard to packetcollect to get the emulator up to live status.

I have no legal background, but I would think that after EQLive shuts down, it will be considered abandonware... the way I think of it is, on what grounds could it hold up in court, especially if they claim that they are loosing money from it... especially considering they would not get any income from EQLive once it shuts down ;)

Copyright law, as it pertains to distributing warez, would still be in effect after a shutdown.
There have been all kinds of opinions from one extreme to the other on how enforceable the EULA is... but one thing's for certain: the day Sony shuts down EQ, they go into default on their EULA, hence any obligations you have under the EULA are then void.
