hello. first off let me add i have read the wiki.

i cannot seem to get eq to start. i read the DO NOT PATCH WARNING. as such, i haven't patched anything. i have everquest trilogy installed via cds (classic, kunark, and velious). i have the EQHost file and the shortcut properly created as listed http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=PlayGuide . i erased all info in EQHost file and replaced it with what the wiki told me to do.

for the sake of proving compatibility i installed it on my laptop running XP Home and my computer running XP Pro x64. i had the same error on both.

the error is: when i start the game [via the shortcut naturally] it'll work up to the login screen. i enter the login info and then attempt to connect. the game crashes and i get the 'send error report to microsoft' window that nobody likes to see.

does anyone have advice? should i have patched up to a certain point? if so: how can i ensure that i'm not going to go past the point?

Your client is not compatible to eqemu 6.2-6.5. 6.2-6.5 are based off pre 9/13 compatibilty. So you are out of luck for the time being. There is talk of maybe making eqemu compatible to a fresh disk install of titanium but nothing at the time being. Your just going to have to wait it out abit.
Also if you update now your client would still not be compatible to eqemu as you can not pick a certian dated patch off the sony patcher you can only get the most recent.

So like the big red letters stated you needed to be patched before 9/13/2005 to play.

Run the Escape to Norrath.exe file in your eq folder and patch to the 10 day trial version. Then change your Eqhost.txt file and play. It gets me to Character Select but then i get disconnected from the server when i try to create one.

You need to have patched to live everquest servers, just prior to September 13th 2005 for the correct version. Without that, your everquest client will not be compatable with the emulator. Frustrating, I know. But if all goes well, the devs will do the EQ Titanium thing so the emu will be compatable with a fresh install off of those disks. Woot!!!
