Right now the server is not even close to being ready, i barely have the starting zone populated. I should have an alpha testing within the month. stay tuned!

Very nice. As you do more with OpenZone you'll quickly find your zones becoming better and more sophisticated. I'm looking forward to seeing what you produce. Imaginative people, IMHO, are what this community really needs, people who aren't afraid to leave "Norrath" behind.
I've begun making a snake model, which I plan to include with OpenZone 7.0. It's not anything really special but it will be usable in any of your zones and it's an important milestone in that we'll have our own player model and our own mob (enemy) model. It's one of those prerequisites for having our own game, eventually. When I release it it will include more weapons and improved scripts. I'll also upload new textures and possibly an early alpha of Lelembeth so people can play around with it.

thats great windcatcher. I am so thankful that you continue to develop openzone. I did one tutorial, and it is very simple to me now. Is it ok if i use the zones on my server since i used your texture files? And the snake will be a milestone for making a new game, so far you have made an elf right? keep up the good work and thanks for what you have done for the community.

Everything I release is expressly for use by everyone. Feel free to use my textures, zones, etc., change them, do anything that you want to them. The only way we'll get truly our own game is with our own content, and I practice what I preach when I call for people to donate their efforts to the community.
The snake model is done and 6 of the 9 necessary animations are done, too (making a snake is infinitely easier than making a humanoid). I'll see if I can finish the animations tomorrow and then I might take a stab at skinning.

one year later..
i just got settled into my new house, and the server is back under development, i'm starting from angelox's database, but i will be heavily customizing it.. more information soon!

also, here is some general information about the server...
The maximum level will be 65.
I'm starting out with angelox's database, but i will be customizing it alot.
The server has a storyline, which you will need to know to play the server, because the storyline is key to unlocking new zones.
There will be story-line events.
A flagging system.
Lots of custom quests.
And ALOT MORE.
There will be many custom raiding zones, items, npc's etc.
I'll keep you guys updated.
