Well I've been reading all of the other posts, about eqgame.exe crashing when they try to log onto the game.... Whenever I try to open Eqgame.exe it acts likes it is opening then it just crashes.... Out of know where it crashes. I dont even get to the login screen the Eqgame crashes befor that... I have a 100% fresh copy of Titanium installed... Can someone please help me out? Thanks...

Does it crash with a "We've encountered a problem and must close" error? Or just ~blink~ gone?
If the former, you can try looking in your systems Application Log (assuming you are on Windows XP) and see what the red X errors say about why eqgame.exe is terminating.
Gotta start somewhere, because "it just crashes" won't help solve the problem.

Well... I've tried looking for the Application Log in XP but could not find it.. Yes it gives me a critcal error but it doesn't say what it is or give me any more detail... I'm trying to find something more on it... Do you know where the application log is?

Ok the error I got was Faulting application eqgame.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module , version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.
What do you think the problem is? Thanks for helping..

I have the EXACT same problem. Did you find a fix? Does anyone know of a fix. I figured I wouldnt start a new thread over something that seems to be so common... but yeah, I have the exact same thing happen, I try to log in, enter my UN/PW and then boom, that pops up. Im not sure if this matters but I bought my Trilogy a while ago... hope thats not the reason.

Unfortunately, with no details in the faulting modules, I do not believe anyone can say specifically what the problem is. There are a few other eqgame.exe crashes threads here. Check those to see if anyone has been able to resolve their problems with a precise action. I do not think so, though.
Sorry, I thought we were onto something. :)

Also I have this problem time to time.
Check and open your eqclient.ini in the everquest folder.
Go all the way to the bottom and around there is a Display Refresh statement.
For some reason it likes to reset to 0 from time to time. If it is 0 change to 60 and you should be good to go.

Success. Thank you, soulshot.
(Fresh Titanium) Change:

to
FullscreenRefreshRate=60

Apparently I don't have "FullscreenRefreshRate" at all in my Eqclient.ini ..,
can someone possibly list the entire file's contents?

My EQClient.ini is as follows:
[Defaults]
Sound=TRUE
TextureQuality=1
VertexShaders=TRUE
20PixelShaders=TRUE
14PixelShaders=TRUE
1xPixelShaders=TRUE
MultiPassLighting=FALSE
UseLitBatches=TRUE
So as previously mentioned, if anone has a EQClient.ini file with the Display Refresh (i believe it was, at least) if they could send the contents i would appreciate it, as would a few others who have this problem :-)

This happened to me after a fresh Titanium install.
I was trying to connect to eqemulator login server. Moved to minilogin and worked perfectly without any change but the eqhost.txt file.
Maybe it has something to do with some server names or the player counter that eqgame.exe cant handle and crash.

Ugg ive had about every error, before they told me i cant patch to live AT ALL and dont add any 0.7.0 files, so i freshly installed it and now i change the host and have the shortcut and when i double click on it , it acts like its opening and gives me an error that says, eqgame.exe needs to close, we are sorry for the inconevinece.

Im having this exact problem. I have made sure to read the wiki 20 times, i have edited my eqhost file to be exactly like it should be. My shortcut is perfect with the patchme in it. I have a fresh titanium pack, unpatched. Whenever i double click the shortcut to enter the game, it goes black, then goes back to the desktop and gives me the "eqgame.exe needs to close, we are sorry for the inconvenience."
I've tried adding a friends EQclient.ini info (he can get on fine) in place of mine, that didnt help. I tried editing the refresh rate from 0 to 60, that didnt work. i've searched all over this board, and this is the only post i can find with people haveing the same problem... :(

Same problem, eqgame.exe closes but with no error window. It does this under the following situations.
- Computer 1 had EQ installed from way back when I stopped playing. I had up to the Gates of Discord expansion installed. I patched to live then tried playing on an EQEmu server which resulted in the eqgame.exe closing down. It closed at a variety of points anywhere from submitting my username and password to sitting and looking over the server list. When I saw titanium was required I figured that was the problem.
- I uninstalled EQ from my system and got EQ Ti. Installed EQ Ti on computer 1 and on another system that never had EQ installed, computer 2. I was very careful not to start up EQ and allow it to begin patching. Both computers experience the same problem. However it is still random so if I fail to get into a server the first time I can keep trying and eventually I make it in to play.
Following Soulshots suggestion I looked in my eqclient.ini file and changed FullscreenRefreshRate from 0 to 60. I found it in the section named [VideoMode]. Though it seems to happen in windowed and full screen mode I'm crossing my fingers :) I'll report back on the results.

Dunno if this is the problem the above 2 or 3 posters are having, but I found on my machine I needed to install the most recent DirectX from Microsoft otherwise my client crashed out as well. try http://www.microsoft.com/directx, click on the link to get the latest, and see how you get on.

Whenever I start having issues with a gfx intensive application (aka games) I always start with verifying I have the most up to date version of directX and video card drivers. That makes things work 90% in my experience.

Stating the obvious here, but a simple Add/Remove Programs of Everquest Client does not remove every file. Anything digitally downloaded is left behind, as are logs and such. To be safe, ARP your EQ Client, go to C:\Program Files\Sony, and nuke the whole dir completely (save your logs and Screenies!! :))
Then reinstall Titanium. I have always had good results this way. And current DirectX as well (which I think is the solution to the current problems).

Well, I was logging in and playing yesterday and this morning. When i got home from work, every time I hit the server selection screen the client locked up and crashed a few seconds later.
Since I already have both the newest video drivers and the newest directx and, I haven't changed anything since this morning, I decided to nuke the client and re-install (nuke meaning to uninstall then manually delete the directory).
Now I crash at the halloween event message that pops up after the login. Simply cannot get past it.

Logged in through minilogin with no trouble at all. Now this morning, I can get to the public LS no problems as well. Tried three times in a row, no lockups etc.

I'm sittin here looking through these threads.. I haven't even tried EQEmu yet but I noticed something I felt I should comment on.
When any windows app crashes and reports a fault at address 0x00000000 that could very well mean that a structure in the app was used before it was initialized. I know this because I'm fooling around with VC++ 2005 Express edition with Windows Platform SDK and DirectX9 SDK and I used to get that error a lot before I realized I was using a structure I created but didn't initialize.
The fault came about when I had a pointer-to-function initialized to NULL in the constructor but I forgot to assign it a value in the init code.
I've never worked with any kind of SQL server so I'm not precisely sure if it uses pointers in this way, but if there is a structure related to the login process that isn't initialized with valid values it's possible that's what's creating this fault.
I continue reading ...

My guess is that its 99.99% NOT the EQ client and driver issue on your machine. DirectX is one odd beastie. I have having serious issues like this on another game and after the 5th install of DX/VidDrivers, I was ready to scream. Turns out it was a DirectInput error and my mouse driver was the culprit! Think outside the box, try updating the drivers for every item on your machine, then updating DirectX.

Hey everyone, after having this problem for a few weeks. I installed a new video driver, dx9 update and anything including dancing on one leg. I forgot to check one thing. one minor detail that fixes my problem for now at least. i changed in display properties > settings I changed the Color Quality to Medium (16 bit). I have had no problems since then. might help some people

The fix for this seems to be to right click eqgame's shortcut and go into the compatibility tab and select windows 98 compatibility mode.

Hate to double reply but it seems that only worked a little while, for some reason now EQ when I load it up crashes again, I just dont know anymore.

this is an issue with the EQ client, not the EQEmu server.

This happenned to me the other day for the first time. Don't know what caused it, but when i shut down my server and tryed again eq fired right up (might not matter but running Mysql 5.0.24). Started server eq errored out again so i rebooted system and not run into the problem again YET. Don't know why it errored out with server running cause i don't think eq connects to any part of the server till hitting the login.

Same issue on two machines now. First one, then the other. I did notice that I had used the "/Q" option to quit out of a few servers which was probably *not* the smartest thing to do, however, my character(s) seem to have stayed logged into that/those servers for quite some time afterwards, at least 25 to 30 minets. I can't say it was any longer than that because the individual on the second computer was tired of waiting on me and exited the game, then began having the same issue as myself. (note: these are two totally separate accounts.) I also noticed that a previously posted EQCLIENT.INI file, although containing the same information as my own, was in a different order. Hmmm...
Now that I am thinking about it, long after I had ended the game and even rebooted the computer, my router was showing information being sent to both computers that had been on-line playing the game...after a reboot, like the server was still sending information to my computer long after I had closed/crashed the game. Router looks silent now, going to try again. Nope, same prob. Guess I'll start with the DX stuff and work my way through...
Oh, one other thing, the graphic settings like the high-end models had auto-changed to enable everything on it's own when I change servers....why????

Okay, whomever said that it was a MOUSE problem was getting close to what might be, perhaps, the real issue. I have DX 9.0c and everything checked out just fine. I switched into windowed mode and noticed, like they did, that when the mouse was left *outside* the box while logging in, it was fine, but, if the mouse cursor was inside the EQ box then it crashed. I also noticed That on the server screen, and this may be of some help, that once the scrolling text for the "expansions" started scrolling by, I could move the mouse freely without any further crashes, but, again, this is in WINDOWED mode. Keep in mind that this was working just peachy for a few days until I changed servers from one of the two "main" servers to one of those hosted by the masses, that's when things went screwy. I did finally get logged back into one of the main two EQ servers and logged back out of the game, changed back into full-screen mode, but again, it crashed, no mouse movement at all, but, because it was in full-screen mode, the mouse was "inside the box"....what choice does it have???? It's in full-screen mode. :P Going to reinstall from scratch and wipe the whole directory out before re-installing so no files linger. I'll post more later.

Did you try the mousefix program that MS had posted for this problem? I remember it was for people who couldn't play Everquest in full screen mode - you installed then, when you ran it, it showed a list of programs to where you could change to "old compaitbilty: mode.
The name is "windows application compatibility toolkit 2.6" - this fixed my mouse problem under windows, your problem sounds a lot like what I had.
I have the program, but since it belongs to MS, i don't want to get screwed by them, for posting it. You can probably find it at MS site.

The MS compatability program looks very useful indeed. It does not have Everquest listed, though. I read up a bit on it and the SP2 installed on XP is supposed to fix the old mouse errors so I cannot use the program. Again, it was a happy thought and looks to be a useful program for many of my other applications and games I play so I at least appreciate being shown the software.
p.s.: the scorch and burn install did nothing for me.
The easiest way for me to play EQ right now is to start it in windowed mode, then change to full-screen after I log in. It's just strange that the one single point that it stalls/crashes is right there at the server select screen and as long as you hold the mouse still and don't move it until AFTER the list of expansions starts to scroll down at the bottom, it's fine. It's just tricky holding it that still in full-screen mode, even if I don't hold it and somthing bumps the computer desk and so much as gives the mouse one byte of input at that screen in that first second or two at the server select screen, it crashes. <*sigh*> Maybe I should try a different kind of mouse connection like USB and see if that changes things?
I thought about changing IRQ's around in the system, just havn't been to MS to find out how to manually configure them in XP...not sure you can.

Be sure to lough loudly when you read this. I replaced my ps/2 mouse with my other computers wireless bluetooth mouse and things worked just fine, changed back to the ps/2 corded mouse and it works like nothing happened. Then I Plugged the bluetooth back into the machine it was on originally, and it now works fine too! That was it????? This problem will more than likely crop up again, at least I have a temporary fix.
Oh, I almost forgot, my sound card, video card and USB devives all share IRQ9. That probably doesn't help either and since XP is supposed to be able to use more than 15 interrupts I find it odd that it only goes to 15 on my machine and well into the 20's on another. Hmmmm....personal vs. professional maybe?

I had to change the video resolutions for full screen and windowed mode to match my desktop resolution and color depth (16-bit). Then set the file (EQCLIENT.INI) properties to "READ-ONLY" so it cannot be changed back to anything else. Now I can move my mouse around all I want during login and EQ doesn't crash.
[VideoMode]
Width=1024
Height=768
WidthWindowed=1024
HeightWindowed=768
WindowedWidth=1024
WindowedHeight=768
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=16
FullscreenRefreshRate=60
This has been working flawlessly for a week now so I thought that it was time to update my post. Keep in mind that while the file is locked in Read-Only mode you can still change settings in the game like resolution/color/text/etc. like normal, but you will loose it th next time you run the game. If you want or need to change anything, just undo the read-only attribute, run the game, change what you want, exit the game, *DOUBLE CHECK THE VIDEO SETTINGS* (especially the refresh rate as it tends to get set to zero.) and then set it for read-only again.
I hope this helps others out there.

If you haven't noticed already this eqgame.exe error is one hell of an error. I'm starting to wonder if black magic is involved. Many people have tried to get rid of it but I'm pretty sure only a few have. I'm also pretty sure for some people there's more than one cause for this error.
I posted earlier in this thread and said I'd post back what I found. First, changing the refresh from 0 to 60 in the eqclient.ini file didn't help me. What I post below comes from very many logins to EQEmu since I posted last.
I play EQEmu on two computers at the same time. Of about 12 accounts I often play 7 at a time, 4 windowed clients on the first and 3 windowed clients on the second. Normally the eqgame.exe error comes and goes. When it's 'active' it hits me hard keeping me from getting past the server select screen through many attempts, though using the quick connect button seems to help a little.
I have one account that _never_ has the eqgame.exe error it doesn't matter whether I use computer one or computer two. Another person no stranger to the eqgame.exe error and in another country also has access to this account. They _never_ have the eqgame.exe error logging in on this account.
Recently I spent 2 weeks 100 miles from home. I took my one computer box with me. I never experienced the eqgame.exe error while I was there. For me one or perhaps three days is a long time to go without seeing the error, never 2 weeks. During this time others online would mention how the error was keeping them from logging into PEQ so the error was still occuring, just not for me. The day after I returned home with my computer I began seeing the eqgame.exe error again.
There is also this link to a post on the PEQ forums where I describe the error in detail and another experience with it. http://www.projecteq.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1861
I'm going to go through the threads here on EQEmu tomorrow and try some of the fixes I haven't tried yet. I'll post again if a fix works for me or if I find anything new.

It is a problem with video drivers. I just tested this extensively today...I had to roll my NVidia drivers back to an older release to get it to work.

Hiyas. Im totally new here and just set up everything acording to the guide with fresh install of titanium. But everytime i started eq i would get the ''eqgame.exe has encountered an error'' message before i got to see any real screens. It was getting the error right at start as screen changes resolution. I have widescreen moniter so my resolution was on 1440x900 . on this resolution i would get the eqgame.exe error . When i bumped it down to 1280 x 1024 it works great
hope this helps some of u with the error

When the DNS was down for Eqemulator.net, and I used the IP address 64.251.21.39 (from PEQ) it worked everytime. As soon as Eqemulator came back online, I had a lot of problems.

Try this;
Find your HOSTS file - in windows its in windos/system32/drivers/etc add this line;
64.251.21.39 www.eqemulator.net eqemulator.net
This will give you a "shortcut" to the server. Only problem is, if they change IP address, you have to know and change too.
John Adams
06-14-2007, 11:39 AM
Editing a HOSTS file is always a bad idea (this is why god invented DNS), though it might provide a bandaid, it is not a solution. The real problem exists out of our control.
And you are right, if the IP changes, I can see 20 more threads about not finding the login server. ;)
Angelox
06-14-2007, 12:37 PM
I always keep one (HOST file), you really need it for EqEmu; for some reason the DNS goes down a lot, but the IP always remains steady.
Internet really is based on IP and not "names" - names were created to simplify the ip numbers. But always is faster and more direct whan you use an IP address.

The fix for this seems to be to right click eqgame's shortcut and go into the compatibility tab and select windows 98 compatibility mode.
This did the trick for me, thanks for the tip... simple, just the way I like em ;)

check the support forums for EQ at: http://station.sony.com/
this is an issue with the EQ client, not the EQEmu server.
it is the EQEmu server not the actual game client it has to do with somthing on the server list your all experiancing what is known as the SSSE ( Server select screen error ) the reason some of you find fixes with your mouse that fix the game is because the loading of all the private servers.
When you move your mouse on the screen while its trying to load it will crash , if you leave your mouse not moving it will either work or make the server select screen show up blank with no servers.
Ive been having this problem for a very long time and untill the GMs of EQEmu figure out what is wrong with the server screen nothing you do will permanently fix it, and what is this minilogin ? your all talking about.
Sorry if i sound negative if you get to the server select though and it all seems well dont move your mouse till you see the expantions list start to move or it will crash.
I persoanly dont think the emu client can support this many servers online at a time so if any GM's read this post i suggest highly of taking the empty servers noone plays in offline to save us from this hell.

Anyone else here having this problem using a possibly high latency connection? I am on a wireless broadband connection and it is common for it to have high latency. I have seen some people try to relate this problem with latency so I wanted to throw it out here and see what people said.

Wireless might be where your problem is. Make sure you have a good signal. You can easily drop down to nearly dial-up speeds if you are too far from the wireless point. You also might have a large amount of packet loss on wireless. Try it wired. If you still have the same problem, your ISP sucks.

It's definitely still a problem. It's hard to pin down because sometimes all is well for a week or more of daily multiple logins... then all of a sudden, blammo. A reboot seems to help, but not always. Changing driver versions doesn't seem to help much long term.
I suspect it has something to do with the LS simply freaking out and sending bad data to the client which crashes it on occasion. BUT, since we do not get to peruse the LS code (and for good reason), there's really no way to know.

I've found that this problem only occurs on new login accounts I make. For example, I have 2 accounts that were made years ago that NEVER have this problem whereas a new account encounters this problem daily. Also, if I try to login to one of my older accounts while having this problem on a newer account, I get no error. Hope this helps.

I've been able to bypass the bug usually by fiddling with my resolution settings.. I don't know if that's luck or not.. I also run the game in XP compatability mode (I'm running Vista) and I added "FullscreenRefreshRate=60"
to my client ini file.

I can't speak for everyone, but I now know exactly what caused this crash for me.
Widescreen monitors.
Bumping the res down to 1280x1024 fixes it, but it looks like crap. Did EQlive ever have an issue with this and solve it? Perhaps it's time EQemu looks at moving forward to that?
John Adams
07-20-2007, 11:26 PM
Actually, you are right. I usually copy my old 1280x1024 eqclient.ini from a backup dir to my eqemu client when I reinstall and it fixes things for my 1680x1050 monitor. Once I get running though, I can switch from windowed and use full resolution and it stays good.

Just to let you know that both my accounts work perfectly and when my friend tries to login he has this problem. So i logged in on his PC with my account and it has worked flawlessly. He then tried on my PC and failed every time.
I have a strong feeling there is a problem somewhere on the logon server side as I have encountered 3 other people with the exact same issue. Regardless of eqclient settings.

There are multiple problems haunting us right now... but luckily I believe some of the resolution problems can be resolved. The survey problem, thorn-meet-side...

Is this where the client asks you to answer a survey upon login?
techguy84
07-24-2007, 04:14 AM
One EQgame.exe crash is. Its due to bad packets from the client and the server regarding a survey that pops up and ask you question like "Is This thing Working" or somethign like that.
The other well known one is due to High Resolution Widescreen Monitors not having there abilities set up in Titanium so you crash out.
RobSpewack
07-26-2007, 05:56 AM
The other well known one is due to High Resolution Widescreen Monitors not having there abilities set up in Titanium so you crash out.
So does this mean there's a way to configure the client in game to accept widescreen monitors? I've looked in options, and didn't see anything, but I'm notoriously blind when it comes to obvious things.
Anyone know of a workaround that's not changing desktop resolution every time I want to play?

I have a lappy with a wide screen monitor (1280x800 max) and I just edited all three resolution entries in the eqclient.ini to read 1024x700 and all is well with me.... perhaps that might help ya?
John Adams
07-26-2007, 08:34 AM
I do not think there is a "widescreen" option exactly. Just a resolution. Your video card should tell EQ what it's modes are, and EQ should be capable of using them. You might have to enter the game in 1024x768 (windowed) mode at first, then change from within. That's what I had to do.

What worked for me was setting my desktop resolution to 1280x1024. EQ would give the error whenever I tried to start it with my desktop at 1600x1050. Once in game I could then change it to 1600x1050.

I got it to load after copying someones eqclient.ini in this thread, for some reason I like like 5-6 lines in my ini and that was it.
It does not like to start up in full screen mode at 1440x900 my desktop res, but it will start up at that res in windowed mode... I'll deal with windowed mode as long as it's working

I got it working, somebody posted their eqclient.ini details, I C&P'd sections one at a time.. it didnt work until I pasted the defaults section... I believe it was because it is now forcing the windowed mode, for it to work.

Hi there ,,, i was wondering if anyone could assistme. every so often my server works fine ,,, then all of the sudden the next day to a week or later wont work ,,, i try logging in and when i hit enter world on the character select screen i get a zone.exe error i have the newest files i do believe ,,, also only way i can log in is if i go into navicat ,,, and put the characters manually into pok ( poknowledge ) which gets annoying and also when it does load up normally how can i make the tutorial work ? mines of gloomingdeep?
And all this happens when you are not in pok and if you try logging to another zone crashes , if u make a new toon = crashes ,,, so once again have to go to navicat and put them in pok in order to work partiall just that zone ? ? ?
any thoughts any1 ? plz i have had issues for a long time now :-?

All I did to fix this problem is change the graphic options from resolution of 1200x600 or whatever to a lower res, unclick (turn off all graphic options).
It's either that, that fixed it or left clicking, going to "properties" then clicking the tab "compatability" and click "run this program as administrator"
Hope this helps someone out ! :D

I've tried everything on this thread and still no luck. I want to play this emu. Is this all an elaborate hoax?

So, I had an error, as soon as I would try to open EQ (using a shortcut to c:\eq\eqgame.exe patchme), the screen would flash and go to a black box (the normal startup routine) but just before it took you to the EULA, EQ would crash. I'm running an Acer Aspire 9300 with an AMD processor and NVidia GeForce Go 6100 video card. This is a fresh load of Windows XP SP3, with the latest DirectX 9.0c and a fresh install of the Everquest Titanium client. I had downloaded and installed all the drivers from the manufacturer's website, including the video drivers. I tried to update the drivers from NVidia's website, but it wouldn't let me install them, saying that no compatible hardware was installed. I did a manual driver installation of NVidia's 295.73 drivers by pointing the hardware installation wizard at the drivers folder in the unpacked NVidia files. I can now startup my EQ client and actually get to the EULA, SOE screen, and to the log in screen. It seems like updating my video drivers made it so EQ could work.
