Ok, I have been reading and searching for quite some time now and I feel it is time to make a post. I have a fresh unpatched install of Titanium, which I edited the eqhost.txt and created a shortcut to. I followed the player guide perfectly and I am fairly computer/network savvy. I work as a Network Administrator, so I am not a complete idiot anyway.
Here is my problem:
1. I double-click the shortcut icon that I created
2. EQ runs and gets to the logon screen, and I login just fine
3. I get to the Server select screen and all of the servers show up
4. I click any of the servers and hit play, and then the screen freezes accept for the mouse for about 15 seconds
5. It returns me to the login screen and now has the server I just selected in my quick connect button
6. I login and get to the server select screen, but this time an error message pops up and it is a 1017 error about patching and being up to date
I am showing as having 25 of 25 expansions, and I ran the client version checking program and it said I am compatible. I tried doing a reinstall I tried adding the FullscreenRefreshRate=60 to my eqclient.ini, but none of that helped. I have turned off the windows firewall and have opened ports 5998 to 9000 in both TCP and UDP in my router. I even tried following another post about creating a batch file that clears out the server data in the eqlsPlayerData.ini file. Nothing seems to work.
The weird thing is that I was actually up and running fine 2 nights ago before the server crashed and had the corrupt files. I had only been running for 1 day before that happened. I had the same issue I am having now before I got it working the first time. I didn't change anything, accept the last time it just started working after I updated my video drivers and rebooted. But then I changed nothing and it is back to not working again...
Sorry to make such a long detailed post, but I figure the more info the better. And at least it this issue gets resolved, it may be easier for other people to find this post and fix their problem as well.

Hmm the only thing that changed after the server went down, was their DNS address. just for grins, in your eqhost.txt file instead of having
host=eqemulator.net:5998
put it has
host=209.83.7.239:5998
can't hurt to try it...
If it does work, remember to put it back to the correct way after a few days.

Well, I tried changing the host to resolve to the IP address and that didn't make a difference.
I finally got it working at least some of the time by messing with my eqclient.ini alot. I deleted it and added stuff to the fresh one that was made until it finally started working. It still seems to time out or LD every now and then when I zone or try to enter world, but so far it seems to work better. If it starts acting up again, I will reply with the status.

After playing for a few hours yesterday just fine, it's broke again now. I have been trying to get it working again for over an hour. Sometimes it seems that a reboot will get it working again after I have been making changes. I am just stumped here. Is it possible for someone to post their entire eqclient.ini configuration? I know it is illegal to ask for EQ files on this site, but I am just asking for a confuration, not any files.

Just delete it (the eqclient.ini file) or move it to the desktop. Then everytime you log in, it'll create a fresh one for you. Once you have everything the way you want, just log back out and save the file somewhere else so when it happens again, you can just replace it with the backup with all your saved settings.
I did notice that if you make changes to any of the option in the Options menu, then it's a good idea to log out by camping. If you /quit, you might corrupt your files again.
Works everytime for me so far. :)

I don't know, this issue seems so random. I worked another hour on this and had no luck, then I tried this fix from a post I found:
"For some reason my eqgame.exe has been liking to crash lately , not sure if anyone else has come across this. To fix it , open eqclient.ini in your everquest directory , go to the bottom and fix the default refresh rate from 0 to 60. ( or whatever resolution and refresh rate your monitor supports ) . Save eqclient.ini , then start eq in windowed mode ( alt-enter ) , works like a charm. For some reason DX9 is complaining about eq when it tries to display a screen resolution and refresh rate that doesn't make any sense to it. *shrug* was working fine before."
It worked 1 time, but after I logged the character out it booted me back to the login screen instead of character select. Then I tried to login again and I am back to my same issue... I tried to follow those steps again a few times and it isn't working anymore :(
Thanks for the suggestion Vales. I have tried multiple times to delete my eqclient.ini file and have it start from scratch, but that doesn't seem to make a difference for some reason.
I am not sure what else to do, so I may just format my hard drive and do a fresh install of windows XP and EQ Titanium. Maybe I will have better luck then....I hope...

This could also be a hardware problem - check for dust build-ups that could cause over heating in your machine. Also make sure all your cooling fans are clean and running - sometimes worn-out cooling fans run for a while, then freeze up (they appear to be running).
I've had similar problems like yours, caused by over-heating due to dust build-ups or worn out cooling fans. If you machine did overheat, it may be too late and the damage is already done.
Also wouldn't be a bad idea to scan for virus, get one of those online services that will give you a free online scan. If you have windows, http://www.bitdefender.com is a good one. http://www.f-prot.com gives away free Linux AV and a program for windows that has one month trial on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am that heat isn't the issue, as I dustered my PC just last month. I built the PC myself and inspected it when I last cleaned it and everything seemed fine. Plus, I figure if it can handle Vanguard, it can handle EQ with 0 issues. I do think it could still be a hardware issue, maybe something to do with my SLI setup, I dunno. But if that was the case, it should be consistantly not working, instead of being random.
As far as a virus goes, I don't run anti-virus software, but I doubt that is the issue. I have seen 0 other issues on this PC, and I don't see any funny processes running in taskmanager. Also, I don't download anything dangerous to this PC, anything that might be risky get downloaded on my secondary PC and scanned for viruses there.
Hopefully the Windows rebuild will fix it at least.
Oh, and I also wanted to add that if I try using Quick Connect at the Login screen, instead of just using the Login and selecting a server, the game crashes and reports a problem with eqgame.exe. As long as I select and server and hit play, it just either goes black for 30 seconds at the server select screen, or just freezes up at the server select screen, for 30 seconds and both of them go back to the login screen after the freeze is done.

Have you tried this yet;

Yes, Angelox, I have already tried that. I referenced it in my original post, but didn't specify that I was following the directions from the thread you linked. I don't think the issues with the eqlsPlayerData.ini matter unless you are running your own server on the same LAN you are trying to play from. But, I did make a batch file to replace it as stated in that thread.
I want to mention that I really appreciate all of the suggestions people have made in this thread!
I formatted my hard drive this morning and reinstalled Windows XP. When I get home from work, I will finish getting windows ready, and then install Titanium again. Hopefully a completely fresh install will get this working. If that doesn't work, I will be completely stumped... But, I am pretty sure it will. It has been a long time since I have done a rebuild, so it was about time anyway. I can't wait to get EQEmu working properly, so I can start focusing on playing instead of troubleshooting, LOL.
I am going to be playing on Darktides server, BTW. So keep a lookout for me!

Well, this is definitely getting frustrating...
I reinstalled windows and loaded all of my normal applications and drivers like I would on any fresh install. Finally loaded up titanium and followed the steps again to connect to eqemu. I logged into EQ and was surprized that I got right into the server on the first try. I was in and playing for about an hour, and then I tried to gate to PoK... My computer completely froze up and I had to power cycle it. Once window loaded, I tried titanium again, but this time I got an error message saying something about unable to connect to server when I clicked "play" from server select. I tried quick connecting and that didn't make a difference, then it went back to doing what it was doing when I started this thread...
I am going to try this on one of my other PCs and see if it will run on them. if not, I either have a network issue of some sort, or somehow my titanium package is different than everyone elses...

Well, I think I finally got my issue fixed for good! I hope anyway...
After I moved EQ to a PC connected directly to my router via cable, I was still unable to connect. I then had to assume it was a network issue. I plugged the ethernet cable directly into the modem, and BAM, eqemu started working... The only reason I didn't test that in the first place was because my main PC is wireless and isn't near my modem. Anyway, once I deduced that the issue was with the router, I did searching directly for Linksys issues, and the first thread I found was able to fix my issue.
From this thread (http://www.eqemulator.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20881&highlight=linksys), I found the following quote from Angelox:
"another thing, are you using a Linksys router? did you clear all the fields in the ports you were redirecting? Linksys gets buggy and does strange things , I've had to reset my router completely in order to get it to work properly - it looks like your are not connecting at all to the log in server?
Also, sometimes ISPS block all your ports and just let you use browser ports."
I cleared all of the ports, but that didn't work. I wound up finally having to use the small reset button on the back to set it back to factory defaults.
So, thanks once again Angelox, you indirectly resolved my issue!
I will post more if I have any further troubles, but lets just hope that doesn't happen...

I am having this same problem while trying to connect to the stormhaven server. I can connect to other servers and play without an issue. The really strange thing is that I was just playing on the server last night. I have made it to the character select screen from time to time, but it disconnects and returns to the login screen when I try to "enter" with a character.
I have followed through this post and tried almost everything that was suggested without success. I am running through a wireless connection and the router is the DSL modem. Nothing has changed on my end since last night. It seems to me that it must be something on the server side??
If anyone has found anything else I can try to fix this I would greatly appreciate some help. I can't wait to get back to playing on StormHaven!!

Hmm, this might be better to discuss on the Storm Haven forums. I don't know why you would be having an issue with it. I did have some issues a few days back, but they should have been resolved well before you posted this. If other servers work fine and you only have problems on SH, then it is probably something specific to the server connection or your account/characters on the server.
I haven't seen any issues with players getting on in the past few days. I would guess that maybe there were internet routing issues between you and the server. If this problem still exists, let me know (preferably on the SH forums), and I will see if I can help more. My guess is that you aren't having a problem connecting anymore. The issue probably resolved itself and doesn't seem related to the issue in this thread at all.
I am glad you are enjoying the server :)

Thanks Trevius for responding.
I tried last night to connect, and it worked!... I did nothing else to it so it must have been something odd on the server side.
My symptoms were exactly as yours in your first post, with the exception that it seemed to be only happening with the Storm Haven server.
On another note, I've been trying to start an account on the Storm Haven forum boards but (after a few attempts ) still havn't gotten my confirmation email. So I posted here.
Again, keep up the great work !! I love the server!
