I can see my server on the server select screen, can log into it and create character, but as soon as I click "enter world" I get the message "Server is not responding" then it goes to "You have been disconnected" Any ideas what I may have done wrong to cause this?

I have gone through the readme.txt 3 times word for word without any luck. I have deleted ALL files related to eqemu (not hackersquests) and re-downloaded / unzipped / and gone through the readme.txt 3 MORE times. Still getting disconnected. Does ANYONE even have this thing working? I have checked the boards for this problem... no luck. Seems to me this system is extremely problematic. Back to hackersquest for me. they may be slow, but at least the dont need a readme.BOOK. and it does what they say it does.

Thnx <PEACE>

Post your config files and screens from world and zone so we can try and help you out.

The emu isn't "idiot proofed" <-- not meant as a flame

There are several places that spaces tabs or caps can mess up the emu. Also be sure to look for any errors, and fix them before proceding. Try playing on someone elses server, and make sure that works first.

The emu itself isn't an "end user" type program, it is a server. Also because it is constantly changing, and EQ is changing the server op has to keep up with what is currently happening.

no offence taken :)

I will post the text of the settings soon, maybe it will help to solve a glitch or something, unfortunately, I dont have nearly enough time atm to delve into this as much as I'd like...... ok I'll do it now ;P

I run world.exe and get no errors.
I run Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat and all 5 widows get no errors and go into sleep mode. (I occasionally get errors, but I start over when that happens. Cant remember the exact error atm)

I run EQW Vers. 2.2 (newest version) and get to server select screen. I see my server and log into it ok. I then create a char. It goes back to char select and I click enter world. Then the screen goes black and it says "Server not responding" then it changes to "You have been disconnected"

My System:

AMD Duron 850
512 Ram
64 Meg video (OB) S.I.S. (sylicon integrated systems) chipset
Cable modem internet connection (have wondered if the problem lies here as I KNOW i have done each and every step correctly)
MySql worked fine, copied the db and followed all steps in the readme.txt. There is really only 2 possibilities that seem reasonable to me, but I am a n00b so.
1) Cable internet access may cause issues
2) MySql wasnt set up right.

But those are only guesses, what do I know :) Would be great to get this workin.

I also tried the minilogin many times, I get the same result.

Where is your worldaddress .. the server select has to know where to sent clients.

enter your IP there . ( your LIVE IP not your internal )

ok, so my Live IP is the ip listed when I run winipcfg correct? because thats what I had in there for world server and I get the disconnect thing.

25.26.128.86 That should be the ip address you have in world address

now .. are you using another computer on the same lan?

if so ... when trying to connect .. watch the world server.

you will see the connection coming in .. look at the ip address.

Ok .. before i go any farther .. are you using a 2 computers .. 1 system ( with live ip ) for the server .. and another ( private IP ) as the client?

actually, I have 1 computer (not networked) I have a network card that goes to a hub, and the hub to my cable modem. I have a second computer connected to the hub (this computer has its OWN IP adress assigned by my ISP) but the 2 computers are not networked. Should I try bypassing the hub completely and go directly to the modem, to see if that is the issue?

I can't ping your ip address

And if you have 2 systems with different IP address.

You sure your hub is not a router?

or is your cable modem acting as a router as well

what is your OS?

I had my puter off for a few minutes. I am using winME, I am absulutely certain its a hub. My ISP has assigned me 2 IP addresses. Each computer gets its own adress that way. I got the extra IP address and hub specifically because it was cheaper than getting a router, and my friend that works at ISP got me second IP for free :) thats why I am certain its a hub. Try pinging again. I have bypassed the hub and am now directly into the modem.

BTW.... the IP adress stated in above posts is bogus. Here's my real one. (sorry, not knowledgable enough to know whats safe info to give out and what isnt) 24.81.180.28

<grin> no go ..

still can' ping .. do you have irc?

come to the chat room .. make this easier

/server irc.trifocus.net 6667
/join #eqemu

if not .. then i want you to try this ...

got to Ftp://65.117.186.66

this will make you hit my firewall .. and i can see where your coming from as well as your ip address

LOL just read your edit..

Ok .. that ip address .. is fine .. i can ping that one.

and your useing that ipaddress for everything right?

tried the ftp link, in browser and with ftp client. Did you see my hit?

update: bypassing the hub didnt change anything =\

cant seem to get into chat either. ICQ? my # 99898737

I left my EQ server running, would you be willing to see if you can log onto it? "rastas server"

[Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat] (since I am running win ME)
@echo off
start zoneNT . 25.26.128.86 7995 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . 25.26.128.86 7996 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . 25.26.128.86 7997 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . 25.26.128.86 7998 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . 25.26.128.86 7999 127.0.0.1
exit
cls

If you are using WinME then why are you using ZoneNT? ZoneNT is for WinNT/Windows 2k and Windows XP.

you need to use Zone9x

thanks i learned to look closer at that now :) thanks to Lurker.

ok here's what I do. According to the readme.txt.

I run World.exe

I then run Boot5Zones.bat

I then run eqw

it doesnt mention running Zone9x.exe OR ZoneNT.exe anywhere in the readme... so I never ran either of these. This is an excerpt from the readme.txt....

3) Right click Boot5Zones.bat and click EDIT (This should open up the file in a notepad)
(Or open Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat if you are on Windows 98 or ME).

change it to look like this ("YourIP" has to be replaced with your REAL IP, not 192.168.*)

@echo off
start zoneNT . YourIP 7995 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . YourIP 7996 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . YourIP 7997 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . YourIP 7998 127.0.0.1
start zoneNT . YourIP 7999 127.0.0.1
exit
cls

Now when I open Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat. It still reads the exact same as above. It never mentions changin the NT to 9x. is that all I have to to is simply replace the "NT" with "9x" ? And when exactly should I be running Zone 9x.exe?

rastaboogie
06-03-2002, 07:27 AM
ok, I think im starting to understand this. the Boot5Zones.win9x.bat is running zonent.exe when I fire it up? so when I change the Boot5Zones.win9x.bat to zone9x, it should run zone9x.exe? is this correct?

really sorry all, seems this was way over my head

is it a mistake then that Boot5Zones.win9x.bat and the Boot5Zones.bat are exactly the same?

Shawn319

I see where you messed up, you opened up the .win9x.bat file and copied the stuff there that said ZoneNT. dont change "zone9x" in the file hehe. you want it to load up zone9x.exe when you run the batfile. i'll fix the readme now.

Shawn319

I took out the example and now it says

3) Right click Boot5Zones.bat and click EDIT (This should open up the file in a notepad)
(Or open Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat if you are on Windows 98 or ME).

4) All "YourIP" entrys should be changed to your REAL IP address. If you are on Windows 98/me goto Start, Run and type "winipcfg" without the quotes and hit enter. Your REAL IP should be listed under "IP Address"

If you are on Windows2000/XP then goto Start, Run and type CMD to open a dos window. Now type "ipconfig" without the quotes and hit enter. Your REAL IP should be listed under "IP Address"

I hope this is a little more clear and helpful.

they were set to my real IP, it was the NT thing. Somewhere either in the readme it should say to change the "NT"'s to 9x or the 2 files (Boot5Zones.bat and Boot5Zones.Win9x.bat) should be different as the stand they are identical. I downloaded most recent version and it came like this. just an FYI. changing the "NT" to "9x" did the trick. thank you all for the help. Especially Bastin, thanks for the help guy :)
