Well I am a newb to this emulator stuff so I am just researching exactly what it takes and what needs to be done, what is there and what isn't. If there are links I didn't see in my browsing please just show me where to read so I am not wasting too much of peoples time.

1. Exactly what does this emulator do? Does it just allow the zones to be generated unpopulated?

2. If so, how do you populate them?

3. Again, if so, do you have to completely create your own rules for questing, NPC action/reaction, weapons, armor, etc, etc ... for gaming content and how is that done?

4. How is the real EQ affected by running this emulator?

5. How can I make this so my friends can play on my "server emulation"?

I guess I will keep it short for now. I am just sick of real EQ cause I am not the uber raider type nor do I have the time to do so. But there are gobs of zones I haven't seen at level 66 because I can't get there or will die faster than I can say "oh !@&$" ...

Thats all for now, Thanks!

1..Zones are populated. But not nearly as many as live..It depends on the servers database. Expect to play no further than luclin and some POP.

2..Usually someone collects the info from live and then adds the spawns to their database. There are ready made databases with many zones spawned just like live. However if one wishes to populate his own zone on his own server then it can be done within the game itself. There is lots of room to customize..

3..No..Not if you dont want to..You dont even have to run your own server..
I suggest to read the wiki for players. You will need a titanium client and with afew small changes you can play on a server. I would try PEQ first as its the closest to live there is right now..Or try a non-legit server and be a GOD!

4..The real EQ is not affected..We merely use the client to play..

5..They can play on your server or you all can play on an open server hosted by someone else..There are about 20 or more active right now...

"4. How is the real EQ affected by running this emulator?"

I think he means the client install? You wont be patching to live, just a vanilla install of Titanium and a little change in the EQHosts.txt file like in the Players Wiki. Thats it. If you patch to live, you will have to redo your installation, so do what I do. After you get set up all nice, copy the install to another backup directory or a blank DVD for safe keeping.

Thanks for the info. I was reading through all the stuff about creating a server, because I like the idea. I was a huge mod person with Morrowind and created pretty much a new expansion (island etc) but they made it easy, I could just use the construction set and go to town.

Now for further questions hehe

1. Noticed you can modify factions, loot tables, etc. Well what about the item tables, weaps, armor ... etc. is that info available and can you modify existing and/or create new EQ items?

2. If I do want to attempt my own server, I am assuming I will run it off my computer or is this like a gateway where things are processed through a host like here? Part 2) And if it is local to my computer can I just throw a LAN party with it?

3. Can I get some clarification on the zone popluation, I guess what I am asking is if I ran my own server would it be empty zones, or are there some local files EQ stores on your computer of basic static mobs/NPCs?

**Edit addition**

4. Can you modify/set the xp received from quests and NPC kills?

I guess that will do for now.

Thanks for all your help!
