View Full Version : Purpose of player_choice?

I have been digging through the server files and the wikki trying to figure this one out, but the only way i can really find the stats I need is to log into the server with a character to see what the number is.

Under start_zone: What does the player_choice relate to? I see positions for race, class, diety and for the life of me I cannot figure out what that field is for... :???:

Another question I haven't been able to find a steadfast answer to, if anyone would be so kind: Is there a default setting I can set a field to include all possible combinations? (such as: all Paladins start at x,y,z loc)

sorry for the stupid question. I am currently setting up a new starting zone on my server and not all of the possible combinations are listed in my start_zone file.

my guess is it relates to what zone the player selects in the client for thier start zone... such that you could choose to put them somewhere else.

please update the wiki.

That would seem redundant, since there is already a location for starting zone. I will dig a bit more with experiments and see if i can narrow down what the field intends to apply. Perhaps if they are even doing anything at all...

as for updating the wikki, I won't do that until i have something certain to post. :) I'm just hoping to clean some excess coding up that might not need to be there anymore.

It's not redundant if you are a Human, since you can start in Freeport -or- Qeynos. Therefore, there would be a player choice. Which one?

ahh, yes. I keep forgetting about those silly humans.

Thanks for the clarification.

I guess that bears the question, if the architecture is in place to support multiple choice for home city, can you just change it in the Starting Cities and give Iksars a new home in South Qeynos? hehe.

I actually use the Starting city, starting bind location fields to set everyone to tutorialb. as I found some discrepancies with stuff like newbie note, food/ drink numbers, bandages.. even with everything listed as a default to everyone value.

So, i have everyone logging into tutb with only their newbie note, and have 'free merchants' that contain the no drop newbies starting items/ spells for them to 'buy for free'. then a selection of npcs that will TL them to their starting city of choice and rebind them there.

It's a rough work around until i found out why it doesnt allow all the items to appear ( apparently its not accepting the starting bag as a container for extra items, so any item past the 8th one never gets added in), but a quick fix was needed for my players since I dont know that much about the codes and it will take me ages to figure out why the error exists at all.

A quick way to set the startzone (for the future) is open up command:

-Get to your emu directory

-Type: world startzone zonename
