I've tried all day how to get my own server up and running and i can't seem to get past the activation key - everything i try does not work. Well i tried to leave it blank (as i read on another post) still same stuff happens- Whats the simplest way to get a server running! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A server needs no registration or special activation at all! I did see that one may have to register his server to enable server chat channels but that has nothing to do with a sever working correctly.
If you are having trouble with your sever.config maybe you should post it..
There is really nothing much to the sever.config anymore and the short one worked fine for me.

Well i was up last night for about 6 hours trying to get one to run - i got it all the way to where it opens the 2 black ms dos windows and it says press any key to continue then i press enter and it goes to another black msdos screen and nothing happens - i did my config - I DL'ed all the following - wincvs,perl,mysql,maps,new_maps,peq- Followed the steps that are under Server setup link from home screen - and at the bottom i clicked on "EqEmu 0.7.0-992 with Mysql 5.0.37 4/20/2007" and i followed that guide - 100% and i still cant get it to work!!! And i dont know much about this config file you speak of - if its the myconfig file that you edit - I did that but had to change it up alot? because it tried launching a file that did not exsist. For example it tried to launch eqlauncher.exe - well the only file i had close was eqlaunch.exe so i changed that - i had to take out the 4th line which said wait for something then press enter because it did not recognize the command "wait" - after that it went smooth up to the point i mentioned earlier. Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Seriously this is beginning to aggravate me - If anyone has successfully created a friggin server please let me know the simplest way. I've tried every guide on this website on 3 of my different computers! I version checked everything and can't get anything done, could it be my router? could it be my firewall? could it be my modem? I can't read the little msdos windows that pop up with scrolling text because they go down within half a second but i briefly read something about mysql not compatible? I have the latest version is there one that actually works- I need help so someone please help!

Look in your c:/eqemu/logs and post what it says.

If your msdos box is popping up and disappearing then its not any router or firewall problem(Yet at least). Were you able to create an account on mysql and log into it with the account/password?
Are you using a full install type of program where you just execute an .exe and it installs? Or did you put all the files in by hand?
What database are you using??
Dont get frustrated..It can be confusing at first but you will soon become familiar and it wont be as hard to do if you have to do it again sometime..

Drythe, as far as the window that comes up after you hit the enter key, that window will show nothing, as its a dynamic zone launcher. You want to look at the title bar of that window, it should say 7005: sleeping. That indicates that the zone launcher has booted up properly and is awaiting client connections.
We do need you to post your log files though from your Eqemu\logs folder. This will allow us to trouble shoot your issue.
You mentioned that you used two different guides, If I may ask what was the first one that you used. The 4/20/2007 guide that you mentioned is the recent one that I had wrote and I have had two people use that with zero issues, other than a minilogin problem, but I didnt cover that. If you used two guides, the first one may have some issues that contradict the second one(mine).
Anyhow, pm me your logs, or post them here and we will try to point you to a working server. Sometimes its just the smallest things that can throw the whole process off.
As the doc said, its extremly hard at first, but once you do it, its like riding a bike. I can set up servers now with no aid from any guides. I''ve been throuhgn the guided setup up 4 times, and now I know exactly what has to be done.
