This is a notice to all people asking for or giving out EQ files (eqgame.exe, eqmain.dll, ECT).

Even though it may not be legally "warez", it is against our rules and we don't like it and neither does verant.

If anyone is found asking for EQ files, giving out EQ files, hosting EQ files on their webpage or anything remotely like that you will be BANNED. That goes for little phrases like "Do you know where I can get EQ files" or "Can you help us out with some EQ files" or anything that has to do with EQ files coming onto your hard drive without using the EQ patcher.

If someone asks you on AOL Instant Messenger or any other messenger for EQ files, IGNORE THEM. Failing to do so may lead to your accounts being banned and chat privileges removed.

If you see anyone asking for EQ files or giving them out please contact myself, Hogie or Image.

There will be NO warnings anymore, this is ZERO TOLERANCE.

Please consult the rules found HERE (http://eqemu.sourceforge.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=96)

Are you guys kidding me? What are you turning into Verant? Banning there account because they ask for two files that are needed to even run the emulator correctly if they accidently updated? People probably have the game and probably accidently updated it and need the old version of the files, why is it that you guys are that afraid if they ask for the files, this I don't understand. Why are you punishing them for that? This I need to know.

Because warez is stupid, people should back up their EQ to a seperate folder to use for EMU, use one for normal EQ and one for EMU (which you don't patch) since EQ is one of those games which doesn't screw up if you move it to a different folder etc, and if you don't have the HD space, maybe you shouldn't be playing the emulator, or buy a new HD, they aren't much nowadays.

I'm not flaming you , I'm just trying to say that people don't realise that the rules the admins put down are final and people need to respect that.

It is people's own faults that they patch their EQ, and people need to stop complaining, they're are other things apart from EQ, you know.

I guess your right. I really don't care anymore though. It's not even a big deal. Shawn said it himself though, it's not legally warez. Hey though I care less, I am just waiting for others to say something, I like reading other peoples opinions and seeing what they have to say.

they are trying to be as nice about it as possible, verant is less likely to get mad and sue if they are not distributing the files. Although people with the files will never be able to play on verants server, fact still remains that distributing the files is only to make EQEmu longer lasting, and not to be shut down, but i see where all of you think in the matter and agree.

It's definitely in your best interest to tell people not to use your own website to ask for the files.

However, threatening people using AIM is kinda out there. You don't control AIM, and you're not liable for it.

I think youre missing the point.. The point is , regardless of where and when, if you are found trading in the eq executables, you will be banned, regardless of the medium.

The farther the project stays away from questionable practices, the better off it is overall.

It may not seem to make sense to people who own already own the game, but from a legal perspective, there are alot of different levels of complexity, and best for everyone involved if we don't have to deal with any of them.

End of story, keep a backup copy. If you lose it, find another passtime till it's fixed. Going around begging and annoying because of your own mistakes are just going to annoy those of us who are actually trying to advance the project, not just be a phantom player. I want to see this project continue to thrive, not end up being abandoned because everyone involved threw up their hands and decided 'Its just not worth the BS anymore'.

Hell, if they want them, why not give them the files. Besides, no one said the files they get have to be from the previous patch, heh heh.

Ah, I see what you mean now.

You don't people bothering YOU on AIM for the files, and that's understandable.

"If someone asks you on AOL Instant Messenger or any other messenger for EQ files, IGNORE THEM. Failing to do so may lead to your accounts being banned and chat privileges removed."

That statement makes it sound like you want people to rat out anyone who asks for files over AIM.

Thats exactly it hehe. i was told people were asked on AIM so i AIMed them back telling them about the rules (Drakensoul). he basicly said f*ck you i do what i want and you cant ban me hahahaha. then added a bunch of warnings to me and has been doing so since then.

Listen if you want EQ files, Call up Verant and tell them your name, e-mail address, phone number and address and ask them to send you files from X patch date so you can play their game using an emulator.

Now if you don't think they would like that, why do you think they would react any different to this project if the admins and devs promoted (even if only by not saying anything) the trading of files they retain rights to. Besides it isn't your butt that verant would go after if they decided to sue over the emu. If you like the emu and want to see it continue to improve, then obey the forum rules!

And, just so you all know, the time you spend provoking the admins and devs will just slow the process down so you'll have to wait longer...

So just SHUT THE HELL UP AND BE PATIENT!
