Im new to EQemu but i have heard that servers have a really really low number of people on them. What i say is that instead of people hosting whole servers how about we form a band of people willing to host continents. I know i am willing to host one.
So can anyone give me a number on how many people on average are on servers?

Right now there are a low amout of people on the servers because the patch broke the emu for alot of people. and your idea isnt that bad but. it is pointless till the devs get the emulator coded better and more stable. pluse its all trial right now. because every patch everquest makes messes more and more up. Untill the emulator is considered done ( whish is probably going to take a while ) then people host there own servers and stuff to test out how its working and im sure that when the emulator is finished and everything workes like the real eq the the people here at eqemu will have servers set up to alwasy run. ( im not sure but i think they already do but they are locked alot )

Actually due to so much data being held in mysql, if you run zone servers at another location from the mysql server it would be REALLY slow loading zones. It is due to internet lag an limited bandwidth.

You can do this if all your servers are onthe same local network though.

What is the estimated capacity of players on EQEmu? And what type of spec machine would you require to cope with that many players?

I've had up to 18 people on a single "zone" (P3-1gig, 256M redhat 7.2) but it appears there is no /serverfilter so even at 18, by the time you take melee spam and spell spam, you lag people out, the server drops them or they time out.

The CPU load at that moment was very low (0.20)

I re-tuned all the "warder" weapons, IE 10dly weapons to have a more realistic dly, and that helped quite a bit.

Could only get 8 to 10 on there before that tuning.

Thanks!

When 0.3.4 comes out i'll grab as many people as possible and see how it copes in 'The Arena'.

Hey man count me in. I would love to help Test for bugs and i think it would be fun to see how many people the game can hold before it crashes or kicks people out. When you got a server ready send me a message man :D

the person hosting the server needs a high upload speed.

A while back i had 20 people in one of my servers and i had 20 zones running . ( this is before we had the sleep thing for the zones ) and we had no lag or dissconnects. and im only usnig a 56K over a lan. so just a guess here but even if they have cabel or dls they will still have problems if there computer isnt up to speed :D

I would just love for the people currently involved like us 30 or so people to make 1 server. big enough to house as much as a normal eq server. Make it like the legends server but better, and all for free just advertise by posting on guild websites and such. I would love to stick that thorn in verants side.

I love you

My server is hosted a telehouse in london called 'Harbour Exchange' I've got 10Mbit up and down so hopefully that should do us. It's in england however as i'm running a European server. Feel free to join however!
