I remember using a chat program, and more than likely it had a plugin, that allowed outside chat inside the EQ client. It may have been ICQ that was done, if my memory serves me. Wondering if there are any newer programs out that could do this for yahoo messenger. Or is the code changed so much its not possible at all?

Do you mean EQIM ? I am not sure if it works still, but here is an FTP link to it.

No, this was before EQIM...it was not supported at all by EQ. I've search the net for any info on it...not much luck. Seems this "Trillian" program was able to do this, but the plugin seems to have stopped with an older version of their program. Ah well...

Trillian had an EQIM plugin that was available, yes.

I was snooping on their FTP and saw eqfull.exe on there with a modified date of 2002 - anyone know which client that would be? The original eq iso was over 700mb, but this one is only 450mb. They've got trilogy listed up there with a modified date of 2003 and it's about 1.4gb.

Thoughts?

2002 = kunark, velious and luclin. But the trilogy is only kunark and velious, and that is dated 11/22/2003 in there. So I'm confused.

However, SOE has offered free client downloads to promote the game. Those dates may reflect the promotion dates. I'd bet it's a lightweight patched classic eq version.
