Ok I have read many threads with people with AMD dual cores and in game speeds but that is not the problem I and others are having.
What happens to me and from what I can tell on our server others as well is more of a ghosting effect.
We log in and enter the game and everything looks fine.
It can happen right away or it can happen after a few hours of play.
What happens is you cant cast any spells. If you try to cast a spell it does not take effect and then your spell gems do not refresh.
You can not attack anyone with auto attack or skills like bash or kick etc.
You can still see all communication like OOC Say and guild but you can not talk back. ( not sure about getting tells though)
You can move around in the world and mobs will agro on you and other players can attack/cast on you.
You can't camp out as you get the message " you are too busy to camp right now".
If you try to zone while under this ghosting effect its about 50/50 you will make it through and everything is fine or you hang up. If you hang up, when you log back in you may end up at the point the bug hit you.
Most of the time when it hits me i just Ctr+alt+del and log back in and its fine for a bit.
I have had this happen to me when I was the only person in the zone and I have had it happen when on a raid. The number of people do not seem to effect it and it can happen anywhere from 1-6 times a night.

This is an issue related to Windows XP and the EQ Client. There's nothing that we can do about it on the server's side. There are a number of places with links to the patches for it.
Dual Core Fix
If AMD Proc:
Download: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/cont...ies/amdcpu.exe
For Intel & AMD: Install the Microsoft Windows XP Dual Core hotfix.
Info: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256
Download: http://www.amdzone.com/files/WinXPdualcorehotfix.exe
I hope this helps.

OK but I am not sure that will fix my issue because it states:
Without these updates, computers that are equipped with these power management-capable, mobile, dual-core processors may experience decreased performance or unexpected behavior.
I am using a Quad core and its not a laptop its a desktop.

A simple read on the Intel help site shows that quad core processors are not recommended for certain games, and may never work with older games. There is a quad core fix there working on with some gaming companies but in the mean time, set the affinity of games to run on one core.
Basically you jumped the gun and got something thats too new and have to use just one core to get stuff to run correctly. This is the same issue that us with duel cores had until the fixes came out.

Have you tried to set the processor affinity to use only one core? If not, before you download any patches, download Set Affinity and give it a try. It's a simple program that can auto-set the number of cores a program will run on. Here's the link

Will give it a try thanks!
Yah I thought it was a case of too fast CPU, i just wanted to see if anyone seen it before and if they had a fix.
Thanks again for all your help guys :)

Also, try right-clicking the EQ shortcut that you created for EQEmu and go to Properties. Then go to the Compatibility tab. See if running it under compatibility mode for Windows 98 (if you're using XP) or for Windows XP/SP2 (if you're running Vista) has any effect. This has solved both my own issues with multi-core machines and the issues of others.

I found this behaviour as well...seems that the zone actually crashes for me in the background.
Didn't see any useful log info.
This is only day one of me playin' around though...
I'll try the same DB on different boxen to see.

Hmm I'm also having a lot of problems, not sure if it's because of the quad core though, my specs:
Q6600
Geforce 7900gt
2gig
-I can't run in a 1600*1200 res, 1280*1024 is the only one that seems to work
- full screen mode makes everequest crash
- If I turn on the new models I have no moving animations, and it's laggy
- If I turn them off it's like I'm warping, there seems to be no sort of lag on the buttons, but my screen just stutters each second for like a second.
So it's not really playable for me, I've got the newest nvidia drivers, anything else that could solve this?

I used to have a similar problem on my AMD 3800 X2, GF 6800GT video, 4x512MB Ballistix ram, and triple raptor 74GB HDDs until I changed the processor affinity to CPU0 only AND went into the Power Options in control panel and set the "Power Schemes" to "Always On".
Processor Affinity CPU0 is a MUST at least from my studies as EQ seems to only use the primary core without issues/crashes. I have tried using just CPU1 (the second core) and still get crash issues. My guess is it's some kind of problem with the clients programing.
Setting Power Schemes to Always On cleared up my graphics lagging you were getting. While up front you would suspect it's a graphics card problem, it's actually your CPU causing it. By default, multi core CPU's scale down or even turn off un-used cores to help reduce power draws and overheating. The EQ programming seems to be missing a the programming hook to kick the CPU up to it's normal operating speed and thus leaves it at the reduced speed. For most CPUs this is around 800~1200 MHz, which is enough to play eq, but is by no means a smooth experiance you would expect.
I have also noticed on my single-core laptop that setting the Power Scheme is a must or I get similar results as my desktop dual-core.
I hope this helps and if you are still having issues, let me know and I will see if I can get you some more solutions based off of your perticular setup/problems.

I'm using an AMD Quad-Core and when I try to set affinity to eqgame.exe it says that I'm denied access. I am the admin account so I am unable to bind EQ to one core... I don't get the ghost issues but I never get to past making a character. Also, it takes me 6-7 clicks to click on anything when making a char. It's quite choppy.

Try the fix I suggested above. See if setting it in compatibility mode for Windows 98 (if you're running XP) or for Windows XP (if you're running Vista) has any affect.

Compatibility mode suggested from So_1337 successful so far! I've created a character and logged in with no hindrances. Thanks much, sorry I didn't spot it at first glance-thru.
Woot! this worked for me. I'm running an intel dual core, OS WinXP SP2, simply changed the compatibility from win95 to win98 and it works perfectly now, all the speeds are normal and the graphic settings are much better. thanks!
