found old post but the links in them are dead . i hought if you remove all from start zone and only put in gloomingdeep as X,18,-147,20 zone id 187 race 0 class 0 dity0 but thats not working what i get is when you make new toon you lock up get kicked to password screen once you go back in it will send ya to the the toon true starting city so they must be a number to tell it all races and class though it maybe 255 .I know 0 is not working

Under the variables table, create a new variable called startzone and make the value tutorialb. This will force ALL new toons to start in tutorialb, and they will be unable to start in their normal cities. There is no need to change start_zones at all with this.
This variable has to be manually created, because if it exists, even with a NULL value it will mess up starting zones (in the case of NULL, everybody will start in the default zone, which is qeynos)

It must be in this format
insert into `variables` (`varname`, `value`, `information`, `ts`) values('startzone','tutorialb','','2008-02-10 14:09:20');
it works !

Maybe the zone isn't booting fast enough. But normally that would just kick characters back to char screen and say "zone unavailable". Not sure what else would cause this issue. Does it happen to everyone that starts a new character? And, does it happen if someone is already in the starting zone when you create a new character, so it doesn't have to boot up the zone?
You may want to set your starting zone to run statically. Which means it will be running all of the time. By default, all zones boot dynamically, which means they only load up when someone zones into them.
Oh, and you may want to increase the number of zones that get booted up. I forget which table that is set in and I am not at my server atm to check it.

Hi. Yea i have it as static its tutorialB witch uses its new skins for mobs and was a lot of npcs casting spells when you login. so what i did is stoped the pointless casting on them selfs and i removed a guards or 2 that had no quests and walked around that helped some the pc i was logging in with has like 256 mb ram so i think that was the issue also .but yes once you have the char in the zone it logs in fine it was just when i made a new char. i got kicked to the enter password with no error popup so i think its the crappy pc. i can login my GM on my server pc with only 512mb ram and it works fine i need to make a new gm Char and check it that way next. ill let ya know how that goes Ty for the help on this all
How exactly do you modify the DB to have static zones?
I have just been using the command line.

i use Navicat and add both types of zones in it under Launcher for Dynamics and under Launcher_zones for static
So under launcher_zones what would I put in there?
Just the line tutorialb ?

Launcher just has the name of your launcher , default is zone and the amount of dynamic zones you want it to load.
launcher_zones contains three entries per line
launcher --------- zone ------------- port
zone ----------- tutoriala ----------- 7001
zone ----------- tutorialb ----------- 7002
zone ----------- nexus -------------- 7003
This makes the above 3 zones STATIC zones that will boot up and stay up when you start your server, even if no one is in them.
BTW: MySQL GUI Tools 5 are free and will let you work with your DB.

yea but i leave my port at 0 it will auto pick a port for the zone .Under Launcher i put my db peq under name and under Dynamics i have the number 20 that loads 20 dynamic zones. Ps use short names under Launcher_zones

Yes, but you are talking about DYNAMIC Zones and I am talking about STATIC Zones. Apples and Oranges

yea just letting him know how to do them also. Only thing i do diff on static is in navicat i go to Launcher_Zones .
Launcher zone Port
peq poknowledge 0
Peq tutorialb 0
Mysql sets the ports auto but you must use short names for zones can be found in navicat under zones
Ven-elexver1, under Launcher all I have is
name:Zone
dynamics:25
Aramid, for static zones, can I leave the port at 0 to avoid me fubaring it up?

I've never tried it, but apparently you can. Only way to tell is to try it and see what happens.
Thanks :D:D
Worked like a charm!

a related question.
so you can make everyone automaticly start in 1 zone wihout changing anything, BUT what about their BIND locations? everyone bind location will still be assigned to their initial home city...
anyway to overwright that easily?
trevius

Startzone in the variables sets the bind there as well. They are bound to the zone they start in. They won't go back to their home cities.

that be great!
but what about exact location? excatly where- say in "tutorial" will everyone be bound/spawn? I take it it could be at SAFE point?

Yes, in nexus it is 0,0,-31 or whatever. Should always be safe point.
