The EQEMu team is happy to bring you another addition to our library today: the PacketCollector.

This version only captures items, future versions will hopefully be customizable to capture any packet that's of interest to you. The item packets are saved to the file "collected_items.eqitems".

To run it you'll need winpcap installed, which you can get at http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/

<a href="http://eqemu.sourceforge.net/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=1654">Download it</a>.

I have some rare and some unique items. Does that mean that I can run this software and capture them?

That's exactally what it's designed to do.

Right now, it's just an item collector. I hope to make it even better though. =)

So does this just read armor on you or armor on anyone. If I was to go up and so a look on someone would it capture all that too.

This should pickup all the items on you and in your bank when you login, any item you see on a corpse, any item you see on a merchant and any item that gets traded to you.

Unfortunately the servers no longer send the full item packet on inspect. (i think...)

I don't think I like that at all. One of the problems that I am having is determining how to deal with unique and rare items. I want to log the items in case I lose the equipment for some reason (but not to a pker cause most of my stuff is no drop).
But I may not make that information public.

At the same type I don't want some pker to gank me at the bank and sniff all my equipment.

Login to Rallos and go to Qeynos. There is abunch of low lvl twinks there that kill newbies. Ive killed them afew times and there no drop gear mostly. Just kill and loot for items heh.
{EDIT}

better yet I have a 60Necro on Lanys with Epic. My account is dead ATM as I quit EQ. I still have till the 24th to play till account disables. If it would stop snowing in TEXAS  I could get my dish online to download all the new updates to play.

I thought that would stop after the delever code was put in (high levels in plane gear deleveled themselves to mid teens and low 20s, melee types)

I tried to get a member of an uber guild to let me look at their stuff in trade windows. I did mention that I was going to use an itemcollector. I was called a cheater.

heh wtf madb0rg, its a pvp server if i PK some and loot their cash, it shows their items to see the stats. mind you its cash only thats how the server is played. Why wouldn't you like that at all, thats how the server goes and it just makes it easier to get info for the item collecter without having the items. hehe i really don't understand how you couldn't like it but hey whatever.

Well, let's see, I have about 3 years on rallos zek with two in the 50 and a couple more in the mid40s, some time on both vallon and tallon zek with lowbies, and I was on test for sullon zek and later got a mid level on sullon zek, so I have sort of seen all the pking there is to see.

My concern is the equipment that I have not the few plats that someone would get. On RZ its even rude to inspect someone. Could you imagine how popular a person would be who goes around pking people to itemcollect? For PVP, itemcollecting is extremely dangerous because it gives your opponent a chance study everything about you -- how much no drop, value of your equipment, and even how much resists you have on.

It's a common practice on PVP servers to be secretive about levels and equipment. Btw, on RZ it is cash and one item loot.
So it is a big deal if you know what I have. And yes, I am one of the people that don't like to be inspected.

Yeah, you got me fairly agitated now.

all i can say madb0rg is that all ive played was vallon zek. Inspecting is rude. And I never said Id go around pking to get items for the itemcollector... but all I do is pk so i would get alot of items. Also it has come to my attention that I have the power to agitate you, i must be god.

I've got a 55th lvl druid with a bunch of friends in a powerguild on Test, I'll just inspect all my friends , and just tell them I'm collecting information for an uberitem website... Should be able to get some nice data outta that...

Wont work, as long they dont put it into the tradewindow.

You dont get the full infos just from inspecting.

I emailed Jelan (creator of Magelo). He said he didn't want to be associated with an emulator. (heh, I never even got specific, but he knew what I meant.)

So that's out.

Hahaha

I always get a kick out of people that believe inspecting is rude. Ohh, and I surely know both sides of the arguement by now as well.

I play on a non-pvp server and some people there think it's rude too! Ha!

The reason you can inspect is because the graphics models of the players do not accurately show the items you are wearing. This is a limitation of the technology. So, they let you inpect so that you can see what you would be able to see if current 3D technology allowed it. (or, if you were standing next to this person in 'real life' on Norrath, and by 'allowed it' I mean higher resolutions models, more memory for all the textures, etc.)

If you're wearing expensive stuff it should be visible.

Personally I think it shouldn't even tell you that someone is inspecting you.

Well, when the day does come when every item on you shows right on your model, or at least to a fairly accurate degree, then there will be no shortcomings in the 3D engine to hide behind, and they can remove inspecting.

I usually end up inspecting because I use mouse look movement mode, and it never fails if I miss an on screen icon and accidently click on someone standing in front of me they start running in circles too avoid me undressing them with my eyes... LOL
