Hi All,

I have been playing around with setting up my own server this week. I am new to EQEMU but so far have been very impressed. I do have to say that the guides I have used are excellent and any problem I have encountered I was able to troubleshoot by searching the boards. I won't name names for fear of missing someone so thanks to all for the impressive collection of knowledge. I have one remaining item that I cannot find a resolution for and a quick question.

Currently I have the server and client on the same system. I am able to log into the game, create toons, kill stuff and all other fun things. The issue I have is that no matter what I use as an account ID and PW, it always logs in as the first account in the account table. I can even type in garbage and it will still use the first account. Has anyone ever encountered this before or have an idea why it happens? I suspect it may be just checking the IP address column for verification but have not proven or disproven it.

My question is simply for advice. I am going to build a server and open it to some family and friends up and down the east coast. It just amounts to a handful of people. I have read through the guide to do it and it seems straightforward. I am looking for suggestions in terms of security. I have seen some people such as cavedude hosting out of what seems to be their homes. Do they have the public servers on a DMZ while running multiple firewalls or is it a basic setup with the one router and all systems behind it with the ports open and forwarding enabled? I am just being cautious.

Thanks all!

The problem you're describing with logging into the same account probably originates from the fact that you are using Minilogin. In a minilogin setup, your IP address is bound to a specific account - so regardless of what account you log into, the database knows to associate your IP with the specific account that you added during setup.

To change this you would either have to a) have more than one computer to get more than one account b) stop using minilogin and just use the eqemulator login server or c) alter your database so that your IP address is now bound to a new account.

With regards to your advice request -

I run a server from my house for myself and a few friends scattered away at college for development of our project. I run minilogin, though I have it running via the internet instead of LAN. My external IP is masked by a DNS service similar to no-ip.org, and the serving machine simply has ports forwarded and firewall off.

I wouldn't be terribly concerned about security if you want to use a setup similar to mine as it does not run in any way through eqemulator.net.

I have the same issue with logging into the same account. The difference is i dont run the client on the same pc as the server. I have 3 PCs 1 is the server the other 2 are clients and they all 3 have totally different ips. The servers local add is set to its local ip 192.168.1.xxx each account from the clients is set at their local ips. The servers global ip however is set to the wan ip. Reguardless of that both clients no matter what account info used always log into the first account listed in the db. I would just use the eqemu public login but I dont know how to set the server up to do that.
