Im trying to get EQ to work on my wife's computer, but everytime I click on starteq.bat the command prompt comes up and the screen will go black then close out. I've already reinstalled EQ. I dont know what else to do. Any suggestions?

Usually, if the game closes out like that when it is starting, it is either because you don't have enough RAM left to run it (need 500-750MBs free) or you need to play with the resolution of your desktop and EQ to get it to work. You can adjust many of the options for eq by running the eqconfig program file in your EQ directory. I don't remember the exact name of the file offhand, but it is something like eqconfig.exe or close to that.

I cant find the eqconfig file Im installing new drivers to see if it helps. I have 1GB of ram and nothing else is running. If new drivers dont work, then I dont know what will. I tried to install a spare hard drive in her comp, and it didnt work and then eq stopped working on her comp after I put the old one back in. Theres nothing wrong with the HD.

The easiest way to find the config program is to open up the EQ directory and make sure you are on the detailed view where it shows file type, size, date, etc. Then just click the top of the "Type" column and that will sort the files by type. The exe files should be near the top of the list and in there with them should be the config one I am talking about.

You can also try adjusting your desktop resolution to different settings to see if that helps.

Will do if the new drivers did not help. If not Ill be back here asking for more help.

The actual file I was talking about is called OptionsEditor.exe. I just verified it as soon as I got home. You can use that to adjust the resolutions and turn off Luclin models, etc. I think if you try different resolution settings for the game and for your deskop, it should resolve the issue, but I can't really give specific settings to try. I just know that many have had that particular problem and fixed it by playing with resolutions.

Let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. Are you trying to get EQ the client working? Or are you trying to get an EQEmu server going? There is no starteq.bat for the client and it sounds like the advice provided so far has been towards getting the client going.

Ive tried putting the screen refresh rate in my eqclient.ini file to 60 and also Ive tried no luclin models and different resolutions still nothing. Ive reinstalled the game, still nothing. It did this after I tried to install an older hard drive into the comp and then I put the other one back in that was in there and EQ stopped working. She has a 1GB RAM 256MB Vid Card with a 1.8GHz processor. It was playing EQ just fine no problems, no lockups, and no lag. I created the text document starteq.bat but do I have to open it with everquest.exe or what?

Yeah, Andrew80k is right. There is no start.bat for playing EQEmu. That is only for running your own server. I meant to mention that in my original post in this thread, but I forgot to.

Make sure you are following the playguide here:

http://www.eqemulator.net/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=PlayGuide

There is nothing about start.bat in there. The start.bat is only used in the server setup guide and you don't need to do that at all just to play EQEmu.

The reason I mentioned starteq.bat is because I found a set up to connect to the servers using a program compiled someone called starteq.bat

Just follow the playguide I linked. It is pretty straight forward and has good details.
