This could be an issue with your desktop resolution or your EQ resolution settings. You might also want to make sure you are running updated video card drivers.

Also, if you are running other 3rd party EQ programs like WinEQ or EQPlaynice, you might need to mess with those or disable them to resolve your issue.

my friend is using the same eq/desktop resolution that I am and he has no issues. My drivers are up to date and I don't use those programs.

What EQ client are you running? Titanium?

Usually in situations such as this, probably be best to get the dxdiag output to see your computers settings sound card, video card, etc. Also the output in the sub directory 'logs' inside your EverQuest directory. There should be like dbg.txt

To get dxdiag:
Start->Run
Type in 'dxdiag' and press enter.
Click the 'Save all Information' and then save the resulting file.
Paste that info here or on some pastebin site or something.

Not so sure if those are the latest video drivers from nvidia.com but might be due to the OS..

Was there not a dbg.txt in your EverQuest/logs directory?

my friend is using the same eq/desktop resolution that I am and he has no issues. My drivers are up to date and I don't use those programs.

Unless your friend is using the exact same PC hardware as you, it doesn't matter what resolutions work fine for them. Some hardware just takes playing around with resolutions to make it work properly. Many people have had similar issues in the past. It could also be something to do with your eqclient.ini config, but there is no clear information on what you might need to change in it to get it corrected. You could try renaming your eqclient.ini file and starting EQ (EQ uses full screen by default) to see if it works after that. If not, you can always just rename it back to the original file name again.

Really, for you to be using Windowed mode, you would have had to either change that in your eqclient.ini file, or while you were in game as full screen at some point. If you have never been able to get in fully in full screen mode and have not edited your eqclient.ini file, then that almost certainly means you are using an illegal copy of EQ that you got from someone else. If that is the case, then we do not support illegal copies here so I would suggest getting a legal retail copy of Titanium or SoF and uninstall your current copy and delete the directory. Then, install the legal copy and you should be working perfectly fine.

Did you try editing your eqclient.ini file and changing the fulscreen video mode setting to look the same as your desktop?

Were'd you get your client from? was it on another PC and you copied it over?

If it's an NVIDIA card, the recent drivers have been having tons of issues lately. It's not rendering full screen applications correctly, so you might need to try an older driver like 182.50 or something. If you have an ATi card, well, I'm not sure as I don't have one. ;)

You can try this, however.

Go into your eqclient.ini file and do the following.

1.) Find the [Video Modes] section. Edit it to the following if it isn't already.

[VideoMode]
Width=1680
Height=1050
WidthWindowed=1680
HeightWindowed=1050
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
FullscreenBitsPerPixel=32
WindowedWidth=1680
WindowedHeight=1050

The 0 in FullscreenRefreshRate should reset it. If it's not, then set it to your desktop refresh rate.

Also, if it's off-center, just wait until you get to the server select screen and then hit ALT-Enter to make it fullscreen.

I have to add that the SoF client's eqclient.ini file is much different, so it would probably explain why there's less issues with that client. Might be something to consider if you can't get it to work.

when I make the client fullscreen it crashes immediately..

when I make the client fullscreen it crashes immediately..

I had a similar problem about a month ago when I upgraded to a new nvidia card.
How I solved it is 2 ways…
First I set the resolution to 1024x768 using the options button on the server login screen then I logged in in windowed mode.
After I got in world I then alt-entered to full screen and used the display options panel to set the res to what I wanted it to be.

That alone didn’t work for me (Crashed the next time I started on full-screen mode) so I also went to the shortcut I use to start EQ, right click it and go to Properties then the compatibility panel and check the ‘run in 640x480 resolution’ box.

That runs the launcher in 640x480 but doesn’t affect the char select or game screens.
After that it runs like a charm.

Hopefully one or both of these will solve your problem.

By the way, the Launcher screen looks like crap at 640x480 when stretched to 1600x1050.

You can go into the nvidia control panel and set it to not stretch lower resolutions and it looks normal again.
