I noticed there were over 2,000 people registered on the forums but whenever I log onto EQ, there's never more than 10 on at a time. What's up with that?

Better yet, Why does the loginserver have 8165 accounts when there is no more than 20-40 people online on ALL the servers at any given time (most of them are on F-H or on a dev server).

i couldn't get on, i tried about 10 times, but each time, after i selected my character, and entered him into the world, eqw would just boot to server select, otherwise i'd be in right now :(

Most people only log on for an hour or so... and talk about noone being on, you should try finding someone online at all when a current patch breaks the emu. Even if you were a hermit and only logged on eqemu, you could tell when eqlive was patched :)

I realise this is an old debate but here goes. The emu should be able to support out of the box client. Sphere server supports clients directly out of the box and up to one version behind the current client version on the web. I realise the architecture is completely different but man would it be nice. Sphere servers have hundreds of users and they don't even have a central login server. Ease of use makes a big difference.

eqemu DOES support eq out of the box. you just need the current patch. It's not the emulator's fault they can't keep up with a large corporation's updates :P

what I'm saying it should support the client w/o patching.
Sphere Server supports clients 2.0.0.0 by a simple ini file.
This version is available out of box (ie you do not need to
patch to get to this version).

So if someone does not update to the correct patch before they release a new one and break the emu then they are out of luck?
I had tried the emu a few months ago and have not patched since so I have a very old patch but updating to the new one will break for sure. So I cannot play?

Baltar I don't think you realize just how much stuff still is unknown about the server. And how much verant has changed the client/server since it's various releases. Some changes were BADLY needed bug fixes.
So your saying they should try to figure out a server that they can't get packet logs of, even though they havn't figured out all the stuff on live servers even with packet logs?
Yes the devs spend time fixing changes that verant makes, but it is less time than would be spent blindly guessing the servers behavior without packet logs. Also the client and server are quite a bit improved!
If you don't want to worry about updates, wait till there is a stable version, and then don't update your client or server. You must run your own server though.

touche. A project like this is an emmense undertaking. Imagine someone is building a very large puzzle on a glass table. eqemu devs are under the table trying to see what the picture is... So they're trying to piece it together down there... but what if they changed the puzzle too? they started adding like a tree or maybe a dog...
Well, ok, i suck at trying to explain things. At least you all laughed... right guys?... guys?....
Hey, where is everyone?
We are here, just staring at the screen....waiting for fix...checking every 2 mins to see if we can play any servers b/c we patched....jsut waiting
