hey guys, I followed the guide to set up this eqemu and I have tried several times to get a fix for this... I googled and binged and twittered my eyeballs out...

nix the twittering because i refuse to sign up for that site... however I have been configuring options and googling for about 12 hours... and about 4 or 5 of those hours browsing forums for a fix and I cannot seem to locate one.

I have installed the game and run through your walk through to set everything up and then when I go to launch the shortcut on my desktop my monitor flashes black a few times then I get an error box that pops up...

The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occurred in the application at location 0x1000edbe

Click on OK to terminate the program

any ideas how to fix this?

I know my paths are correct I had like 4 people review them I even had someone try to reinstall and set this up via remote assistance (yes I actually have a brain and looked for a fix on my own)

so can I get some assistance?

I am computer literate and can work my way around a windows environment, but this is confusing me...

by the way, I'm running Windows Vista x64 bit system with 8 gigs of RAM and a ATI Raedeon HD 3200 GFX card...

the game itself worked when I had the Shards of Dalaya mod/emu installed but then I uninstalled the game and reinstalled to add this one on instead and now I get this issue...

I'm having the same problem. I have checked multiple emulator forums, including this one, and everquest live forums. I have checked random forums, even searched microsoft/yahoo answers, and so far I have found nada. Any answer would be AWSOME!

Thnx

Try deleting the eqclient.ini file and starting up the game.

Out of curiosity, you guys did delete the whole EQ directory and reinstalled the game after you deleted their patch, right? Reason why is it's probably left some old files from their installation or God knows what else.

Also, make sure you have the latest DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en) installed.

EQGraphicsDX9.dll should be present in your EQ installation folder.

I deleted everything out from Program Files (x86)/sony

I even went as far as to just deleting the sony file it'self and everything in it..

I did the eqclient thing as well and it didn't work for me either...

Have you tried reading the FAQ in my sig yet for some possible ideas? I would suggest trying the compatibility mode changes and also definitely try the resolution changes (for EQ and your desktop) as well as maybe trying to run in Windowed mode. This problem is almost always due to a video issue related to resolution in one way or another.

Yah, it's a video issue for sure. I tried all of the suggestions already. The game likes to give the error after you double click shortcut.

Thanks to your tip and countless hours of troubleshooting I realized that running this game on a 1440x900 setting won't work...

so for all who have this issue just change the display settings to 800x600 and it should work :)

That's weird because deleting the eqclient.ini file should have reset it for you. There must be something else that's making it default to an unusable resolution.

Well it's a good thing you got it to work. Now go kill some stuff!
