I'm receiving the following error with a fresh install:
19658 [08.29. - 11:28:37] Starting Log: logs/eqemu_error_zone.log
19658 [08.29. - 11:28:37] Unsupported path file version.
19658 [08.29. - 11:28:37] Path File ./Maps/tutorialb.path failed to load.
All maps are fresh from svn (revision 42 i think).
Any ideas?

It appears that there is a problem with the default paths.
Example:
22290 [08.29. - 12:07:46] Path File ./Maps/butcher.path not found.
Looking in the utils/apathing directly shows the makefile has custom paths in it.
-L/usr/home/jonesa/eqemu/src/boost_1_32_0/stage/lib
which prevent it form compiling.
Where can I get the correct/missing paths?

How did you fix the path problem?
I'm having a similar problem.
Thanks!

Yes, I ran all the update SQL scripts I could find, included was hotzone column addition. My install in on 64-bit RHEL 5. This problem may not exist on 32bit platforms.

Haven't fixed it yet. Once I do, I'll post the fix.

Let me guess, you are running 64bit. If so, the problem is probably due to missing type casts. I'll see if I have time to go through and add them in.
If you are not running 64bit, then I don't have any ideas off the top of my head.
