Project 1999 - Legit PVE Classic Progression
Release Date: October 2nd, time TBA.
After many joyful days, nights, and months of development, we are ready to release the server. :D
Brief description of highlights:
-Progressive through Velious -
- 100% Static Zones - You won't be able to repop an empty zone by zoning.
-Upon release, each RL player is allowed to play 1 client until it is deemed in need of change by the community.
-Classic Timeline - Prenerfs, nerfs, most zone unlocks will be based on an approximated time being expansion unlocking versus original patch notes. (example: box of abu-kar will drop from *any* lvl 35+ npcs until marfen binkdurple is added to sell bag of the tinkerers, then it will be removed)
-Classic Loot - DB completely redone to ensure proper drop rates from common, uncommon, and rare NPCs. Items you forgot about or never knew existed. You shouldn't find empty loot tables.
-Classic Quests - From the useless to the useful, I think all prekunark quests have been researched, fabricated and implemented. Enjoy
-Classic Spells - Spell levels and effects based on original data. Kunark and Velious spells will appear on the correct vendors when the time comes. Classic particle effects, with optional casting graphics.
-Classic Faction - Base factions recreated and populated throughout mobs; creatures and NPCs alike.
-Classic NPCs - Rarity of spawns ensured. Mob HP and level populated from classic spawnlogs. Missing mobs created, huge amounts of pathing work. Scripted NPCs available from scripts only. Dragons, Gods, and unique encounters are scripted events.
-Classic zones recreated - Cazic Thule, Runnyeye, Kerra Ridge with original spawns, quests, and loot.
-Original Plane of Hate/Fear/Sky.. mobs, pathing, loots, difficulty.
-Classic spawn times of mobs.
-Classic class/race combinations only - Halfling rangers, paladins. Gnome Shadowknights and paladins.. are off the menu.
-Classic spell gems and Velious UI are available -
-Classic merchants populated with traditional wares.
-Aesthetics - Faces, textures, clothing, weapon graphics, flavor text, proximity emotes.. fixed
-Classic Tradeskills -
- Norrath purged of frg/bst/ber/vahshir clutter.
- Kunark and Velious npcs removed from classic, until they are needed.
- Dungeon node pathing - Mobs should no longer have phasing ability, and have lost the ability to travel through walls.
- We will be doing GM Events! Minor ones and larger ones.. but definitely the Best of the Best
- Kunark and Velious, when open, will also be classic material. Look forward to original VP 1.0, Sleeper's 1.0, and Plane of Mischief 1.0
A few random features of interest :
- Food/water = mana/endurance effects-
- Eye of Zomm works -
- Blind works -
- Classic Feign Death mechanics -
- Mob run speed corrected - getting away will not be so easy
- Skills - class skills nerfed back into line.
- Pets - poof when you invis/hide/die/or zone.
- Pets - window works, (backoff, etc)
- Classic Alchemy pricing and recipes
- Classic Forage table created -
- Classic spawn points/bind points
- Invisibility spells have random duration timers.
- + hit by non-melee.
- PC pets operate from owner's faction
- Halflings can sneak
- Magical NPCs are immune to non magical weapons
- Endurance bar = Stamina bar, bring your invigor. (WIP)
- Boats are a WIP. Some currently have workarounds, others do not.
- btw, The Plane of Fear will own you in the face, GL on your lustrous russet.

I've been eying this server for awhile. So impressed with the amount of work you've all done without taking 3 years to do it. Now...wizzy or druid?? :)

im definitely excited, the only thing im concerned about is the 1 client allowed thing. Are you sure the population will be enough that 2box wont be necessary?

Hi, thanks for your interest.
a quote from the boxing decision, from our forums.
Upon server release, each RL player may control 1 client with the understanding that the ability to box will be added based on population and post-launch opinions if deemed necessary.
Anyone looking for a full list of rules or information can find most of it on our current forums

Can I play this server using th T client?
nilbog
09-22-2009, 03:04 PM
Definitely. I have had no experience with the SoF client, and im not sure of the requirements I need to support it. Various occasions I would receive tells from people saying the models were wrong.. and that they were using SoF client.
At this point, or until I'm corrected, I'd say Titanium is your only option if you want everything correct.

Do certain races get exp penalties like old times, example being half-elfs being slow levelers? Awesome work by the way and I cant wait to play.

yes lol half elf ranger, troll sk... they will be brutally hard to level up.

Good. I'm glad things will be as difficult, or "classic" as they once were. No 2x exp, no porters or soulbinders indeed. If you really want these things, go play somewhere else - there's lots of servers with custom rulesets.
Hopefully the need to 2box never arises...

Good luck guys, It isn't a classic client, but it's the classic content, which is probably the next best thing. Best of luck on your server!

This is exactly what I was looking for when I joined the EQEmulator community, and as soon as I heard about it I began beta testing for it. I'm very happy to see it finally being released, and it seems a lot of other people are to.

Yes, racial and class based experience penalties will be in place (as far as I know). Personally, I have argued against keeping class based penalties but for keeping racial penalties, but I haven't heard any change in policy yet.
If I remember correctly, half elves have no inherent penalty or bonus. Halflings get a small bonus, ogres trolls and iksar get a large penalty.
nilbog
09-25-2009, 06:22 PM
As far as penalties are concerned, I responded in the other thread but not this one.
Here's a copy of the information
29 //experience modifiers based on race and class, used if USE_RACE_CLASS_XP_MODS is defined
30 // hum bar eru elf hie def hef dwa tro ogr hal gno iks, vah frog
31 float race_modifiers[15] = { 100.0f, 105.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f, 120.0f, 115.0f, 95.0f, 100.0f, 120.0f, 100.0f, 100.0f}; // Quagmire - Guessed on iks and vah

33 // war cle pal ran shd dru mnk brd rog shm nec wiz mag enc bst bes
34 float class_modifiers[16] = { 9.0f, 10.0f, 14.0f, 14.0f, 14.0f, 10.0f, 12.0f, 14.0f, 9.05f, 10.0f, 11.0f, 11.0f, 11.0f, 11.0f, 10.0f, 10.0f};

Rangers being heavily penalized when they're already the worst class makes zero sense (and Sony eventually admitted this).
But hey, Classic = Perfect right?
nilbog
09-25-2009, 08:40 PM
Sucks to be rangers in the story of classic. :(
Classic isn't perfect. It did, however, provide the fun and footwork necessary for sony to still be leeching money, 16 expansions later.
SilentCurse
09-25-2009, 09:10 PM
Yes I do hope that you guys still try to keep a sense of balance, even though you want it to be 'classic'. Don't think 'classic' was the end all/be all of Everquest - the game is far from perfect, just don't let the quest for 100% classic destroy the fun for certain players. :)
edit: *cough* bards/rangers

09-26-2009, 04:37 AM
I will have to try this server out.
I was wondering why it seemed so much easier to level on all the other servers. I had just attributed it to actually knowing how to play the game instead of the exp modifier being up.
Well since we are limited to one account I know what classes I'm choosing from. (not a complaint in anyway) Halfling Druid or Dark Elf Necro for life baby!!!!

Unfortunately, I've changed my mind on what class I'm going to be dozens of times already. I'm thinking Dark Elf Mage.

hahhahahaa original exp, thats like 1 blue exp for a white con at level 1. the whole 1 client thing, this should be funny to watch unfold

Sasaluge, your negativity is not welcome here and you have been warned about it multiple times, especially in direct regards to this specific server. This is your final warning, and the ban will be a permanent one next time it happens.

Is there a long shot in hell that my anniversery expansion will work with this? It was released after Titanium package and has everything Titanium offers.
No stores/shops around me have the titanium package, I found an Omens of War, and 2 Original EQ boxes from 1999 [yes, LOL].
I would buy one off ebay/amazon but it'll take up to 6 days to get here and I wanna play SO BADLY ON FRIDAY!!!!!
I also looked into EQ's store, there is digital download, they offer Seeds of Destruction for $40, and an EQ Starter pack for $20 that has all expansion packs leading up to Secrets of Faydwer.
Someone halp! Does it look like I have to wait til next weekend to play? :-?

I'd love to try this server. I have the titanium cds but I am really bad at all that replace file A with file B stuff. I always manage to mess it up.
One question , I have EQ live on my PC even though i haven't played in years. Will i have to uninstall it and then reinstall. So that it is not patched?

There is a very clear step by step guide on the project1999 website to help you with the replacing of files needed to play.
To answer your question. Yes you need to reinstall the game to avoid any problems.

Total shock 100+ online more couldn't even get on due to ISP limitations It might level out after a few days but all and all an awesome and highly successful launch. I really like the no multi-box rule makes people interact. It was almost like the first days of EQ live.

Many professional MMOs have had the same problem at launch (EQ and WoW are two great examples). I wouldn't spend an extra $1000 on hardware just to please people for the first week of the server's life.
edit: Check back in a week or two and see how the server's handling the load then.

Great server, Little laggy at times but thats understandable. Just can't play my best class of a warrior without a duel box :( I am just one of them people who like to level by them selfs to 50 kinda sad lol.

Well yeah this server is really promoting people to group together to even survive, sadly so many people don't even know how to ask a perfect stranger to group up they're so used to boxing.
Lag is understandable, you need a server to get funds, and need funds to get a server with good population. Hopefully it all matches up just right for you.
If your server doesn't have critics you're probably doing something wrong. :)

Just loaded this up to briefly check it out. My wife and I will be playing later tonight. we can't wait to try it out. now to decide what class to make as i want to do something totally different than when i played live. I'm looking forward to the slow exp and the enjoyment of playing the game without focusing only on being max level.
outstanding work!!

Where many have come before and failed - bogged down in development here or there - this server has overcome and continues to face the challenges.
Considering these epic challenges and the number of projects that have been grounded (many permanently) it is amazing to watch this server flourish and grow. The lag monster - the next greatest challenge this server shall have to address, may grow as the news of the success of the server grows. A great community has gathered and begun to rise from the ashes of a 16 expansion epic fail. I am both excited to be part of this community and support it's development.

Topped 158 single players I believe...I've played EQ and Emu alot. Minus a few tards showing up every now and then in /ooc this is the funnest and best server in my opinion. Its a true challenge. Also kinda strange with only single boxing minus SK/Ranger people are playing what they want to and its pretty evened out.
Random Thoughts as they took it down for 15mins to fix something (i cant wait till its back up)

I was only able to play for a short amount of time so far as i've been trying to get all the necessary files in place. First off, I love this server. Some of the chat from people figuring out just how far they have to travel now to get anywhere is too funny. I am not sure if those out there waiting for titanium disks have SoF or not but that is what I use at the moment until i can find some very very cheap titanium disks. I don't know what issues the different client has, but I am able to play though a little buggy.

They had a closed source project for the most part. Some folks wanted us to colab on the DB, but we were a bit ingrained in what we were doing to even consider splitting efforts.
We weren't part of it and as such would have had no chance to even see the source code much less steal it. Since Yeahlight has released their source; we have it, but we've always worked strictly with the Titanium client. We talked, generally at least monthly with some of their dev's, but trying to steal another projects source? Especially that source would be asinine. We'd have spent another year in development and I'd have committed suicide.
At one point we needed source help, but Ladoth found us and salvation and righteousness followed.
But, like I said, we knew folks on the project but never actively participated. And there are some folks from their project that can attest to that. I'm leaving them nameless out of respect to their privacy.

We never said that. It's a couple of OLDER developers on EQClassic, NOT any of the present developers on Project1999, nor any of the past developers.
If anything, we welcome a project like this because it shows a large following for a classic server. At least I do.
I hope to see you all soon! My boyfriend and I are just waiting for Titanium to get here. We think they might be walking it here and may have been attacked by orcs though...

Oh by the way, how if the Enchanter scene looking on the server?
That was my original main character and despite the chance of starting anew I don't think this old dog wants to learn any new tricks. But if if there is a serious shortage of another class on the server I would rather be useful than a clone.
Oh, and are there enough people playing the evil races???

Pretty good player base, there's a lot of little annoyances but some are good. Some however (in my opinion) are crippling the melee player base (http://classicbetatest.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3625456&gid=62867), but who knows, we'll see what happens in the end.

I have seen several chanters. I think there is a lack of evil races due to the penalty on Ogre/Troll, but I have seen some. I would say if you want to be a DE enchanter you will not be a clone or in the majority at all.

It has some random issues, such as don't use their spellfile they tell you to use... It's not compatible with SoF. Keep to your old one. (However, don't trust the level of spells on SoF file, remember back to old days)~
If you do use their spellfile in SoF, you'll get a "can't cast on target" sort of error.
Seems freeport mobs come up as humans instead of bats.
Some advantages of it though are.. You can use maps on every zone, while titanium only in newb zones. you can use luclin models too if you want.
Every time you attack if you have mana, you may see your mana decrease on soF. (it's an update bug with how they tweaked stamina drain, mana isn't really going down).
Max mana if you go a hybrid may come up as 64% on SoF. (They can't get max mana).
So yeah, SOF isn't supported... but.. it works. XD

Every time you attack if you have mana, you may see your mana decrease on soF. (it's an update bug with how they tweaked stamina drain, mana isn't really going down).
Max mana if you go a hybrid may come up as 64% on SoF. (They can't get max mana).
So yeah, SOF isn't supported... but.. it works. XD
Those don't sound too too bad... annoying a bit maybe... but I could work around that and I like the idea of maps on every level (though I bet I still remember the old zones after so many years hiatus).
I'm assuming it would be easy enough for me to uninstall and replace with the Titanium client if I decided I'm sticking with it for the long haul and it's worth the extra purchase. There would be no issues, Right?
I think I might do the DE Enchanter then! I actually avoided the DE race completely when playing EQ1 and 2. It was the only race I just could never get behind so.... why the hell not!

Yeah, I have both SoF and Titanium installs on my box. You can go back and forth easily, just be sure they're clean installs, then modify the nektulos files, and update the titanium copy with the proper spellfile. (I wrote a switcher for spellfiles if you plan to play multiple servers).
When you start off as DE Enchanter, I really recommend avoiding Nektulos Forest. Run down to East Commons. Unless they fixed a LOT of issues, the bugs of that zone are insane. Mobs are assisting other species in the wrong way, and it's creating a slew of difficulty problems. Death is inevitable in Nektulos.

I've never even tried to use SoF, so I hope Shin answered your question :D

Nektulos Forest faction should be fixed... and I responded to each of the posts with "fixed, pending update" in the Faction forum.

New forums are almost set up.. the ones from beta have *got* to go. Confusing and can barely search. A changelog of things would help.. but honestly there's been so many little db things over the past week, it would have set development behind just to list them all.
Organization is in our future, sorry for the general confusion.

To create a spell file that is compatible with all clients, you just need to import the spells into the spells_new table and then export it using the scripts that are included (the ones AndMetal created). That will make a spell file that has all of the fields to work with SoF, but since the spell files are backwards compatible, it would work for all previous clients as well.
I wasn't aware of the odd mana use bug, but I am sure it is something that can be fixed. Sometime in the next few months, I am planning to level up a 2 or 3 box group using SoF only and hopefully I can identify and correct most of the remaining minor issues with the SoF client.
As for certain races showing up as humans in zones like Freeport and a few others, you should be able to just fine the _chr.txt file from a Titanium install for that zone and use it to replace the file in the SoF folder. So, for example, you would fine the freportw_chr.txt file in the Titanium install folder and just copy it and paste it into your SoF folder. That should resolve the race issues for that zone.

I think the mana update bug is exclusive to P1999, as I haven't seen it on other servers w/ SoF. P1999 did a few alterations in the back end that have been noted over time (such as hybrids only having 64% max mana, the out of drink/food mana regeneration hacks, etc) and they don't officially support SoF so side effects are inevitable, ya know? I don't blame em, nor do I even really document them since it's one of those unintended side effects.
Personally I think for P1999 it'd be best to just disable the opcode acceptance of SoF clients so players can't log in using the client, just so you can focus on titanium support as you did initially. Since it seems map viewing support can't be disabled on SoF, and luclin graphics can always be on, it means that SoF is kind of an unfair advantage to titanium on the P1999 servers.
But then again, I have a friend who only owns SoF and would not be able to play with me on P1999 if this blocking of SoF occured on P1999. So it probably isn't an ideal thing.
Does anyone know why players are able to create names that are all lowercase? (no upeprcase first letter names?) I keep seeing them pop up on various servers. I was curious how they're managing that, I'm guessing an injected packet during character creation to bypass the forced upper letter on client then the server isn't verifying it properly..?

For getting SoF set up to use with P1999, I did what Trevius said for the spells file. I did an import and export using the perl scripts that come with the emu server code. I had a server setup that I was playing with previously.
As far as the human models in some zones go, you need it to load the right resources for the zones. The easiest way I found was to do a copy from my titanium install, all the nro, freportn, freportw, and oasis files to my SoF install. The important thing, if the file exists in the SoF install, DO NOT overwrite. You are wanting the files that do not exist in SoF. They excluded some files containing model information from the zones that have been revamped. It would probably work if you had an old version of EQ installed, and install SoF over it the same. I might do a wipe of that install, and put my old trilogy version on, then install SoF over it to test. But since the issue revolves around missing files, it should work fine.
If you can figure out other zones that contain the models you need, you can probably set up just some chr files to put in the proper associations. I know Trevius has a batch file for his server that does alot of this. I tried that, and was missing models from some of old zones used in classic.
I do see the hybrid bug with mana bar not going to full in the client. I don't know how much of an issue that is as I have not got my SK high enough level to actually be able to use spells yet. My mana bar on my caster shows fine. It may be due to the SK not having the need for mana yet, so not sure how significant of a problem it is.
After I got SoF set up, it works great. The spells file was biggest problem, but once I had a working one for SoF all was well.

I went ahead and wiped my SoF install. Put a fresh install of Trilogy on. Then installed SoF to that same folder. Logged in to P1999 and checked a few of the problem zones, and I had no model problems. So that would be another fix for using SoF, provided you have a version of older EQ to install as a base.

you can always fix the missing models by writing needed lines by hand (only 5-6 zones that were rewamped are missing those entries), or simply make all models global at once

I really was just looking at other options, where it wouldn't be necessary to edit any files. Trying to take the minimalistic approach, to getting things to work. I agree that global loading is an option too.

Do you have a copy of the "adjsuted SoF" spell file for download somehwere? If not, where do I find the perl script you used?

This is good to know!!! I was actually thinking about checking out a couple different servers before settling on one and I was wondering about how that would be doable without totally complicating things. You read my mind because I was going to ask eventually

Thanks for the tip... having avoided dark elves in the past I only ever stepped foot inside of Nektulos like twice for spells/quests in my entire EQ career (crazy I know). So not knowing the zone well combined with said bugs sounds like a real headache for a brand new character.

I can certainly manage any of the solutions mentioned above and I do still have my old EQ disks up to PoP (I think I started downloading expansions when Ykesha came out).
However I think good old copy and paste sounds like the quickest solution with the lowest chance of screwing anything up. At the risk of sounding lazy, could somebody (if they get a chance to) post the following?:
1.) the chunk of text that needs to be added
and
2.) the folder names where this chunk of text needs to be pasted?
I would be fine with making all models global too.... if there is an easy way to do that.
Still waiting for my FoV disks in the mail... hopefully tonight!

I am surprised to find out that you guys have Paineel open???
Paineel wasn't in game until well after Kunark, or perhaps even Velious.
Erudite necros suppose to have their guildleader in that little house at the edge of the forest. And there were no Erudite SK neither

FEBRUARY 17, 2000
Announcements:
The City of Paineel, home to the infamous Heretics of Erudin, is now available via the Optional Patch. In addition, Erudites may now also be Shadowknights in addition to the other classes available to them. All Erudite Necromancers, Shadowknights, and Clerics who worship the God of Fear, Cazic-Thule, now start in the City of Paineel. As such, if you wish to create a character of this type from this point forward, you *must* download the Paineel zone-files via the Optional Patch.
Still prekunark, there were more votes for keeping it than removing :p

Have been playing on this server for about 3 days now. One session I played was 8 hours straight. Never once was i lagged or disconnected not even a hickup. Great quality !
It has its bugs like any server / game has upon launch and it is free after all so to complain about something free is a bit meh. Lets hope the devs are up to the challenge though and keep polishing :)
I logged on today to 260 people. Almost up to that 300 mark !

This server rocks!
I am having trouble with my spells though,
I installed Titanium and I noticed some spells say level 2 for a Shaman. I downloaded the spells file that was in this thread and it seemed to solve that, but it changed the spell icons quite a bit.
Also I was getting higher level spell effects after installing the new spells file. In classic it increased in steps I believe.
I went to the project1999 website to be referred to another website, so I registered there hoping to get access to the forums but it shows no forums are available... I didn't apply to the guild.. Any suggestions?!

entilzah,
I had the same difficulty--you should be able to find the forums by using the upper left link on the vBulletin page. Or just return to project1999.org and you will have access via the top-end link bar.
I do not yet have Titanium (I only have the original game/EQ client from '99) and am really looking forward to finding the discs to return to Norrath. Awesome nostalgia!

Thanks! I clicked on the "getting started" link instead of the "forums" link which was somewhat hidden by the black background of the title on project1999.org. Maybe that can be fixed :)
