SlugBug

okay, I followed this guide to play on 1999 http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2651
the game is up and running but the UI and text looks like horrible shit, like it's overlapping.

that's what it looks like
although it's still readable, it does get really bad.
I've already tried reinstalling (and deleting the first directory and creating a new one) but it's still bunk
anybody know the solution? would be much appreciated

That seems like you just need to close some windows and re-size the chat

I closed the extra windows and I dragged the chatbar size, no fix though.
also played with windows and fullscreen, and fiddled around with different resolutions. Nothing fixed it though :(

Check your ClearType (OS) setting. Turn it off if on. ClearType on this end does the exact same thing to me in EQ.

It is hard to tell if you have artifacts when your screenshot is a jpeg, which has artifacts in itself lol. But, if what you are describing are artifacts around your text and UI and such, it is because you aren't running at the native resolution of your monitor. If you have an LCD, they look like crap when running in non-native resolutions. You either need to adjust your EQ resolution to match your desktop resolution, or you might try running EQ in Windowed mode and see if that fixes it.

What are you using for a monitor?

1280 x 1024 LCD
oh yeah, and while I have a topic open, I'll ask about this too
on the 1999 guide it says that if you remove the 4 songs (theme combats and death) it'll be replaced with the original midi
but for me it just simply removes the music
anybody know whats up with this?

Well, if the resolution didn't help, then it may just be issues with the client or UI you are trying to load on that client.
Also, for issues specific to P1999, please ask your questions there (on their forums or server), as we do not support individual servers here.

Are you using ClearType?
If so, you may want to toggle it off to see if it fixes the problem.
On the desktop - right click/properties/click the "Appearance" tab/Effects..
there you will see the option.
