No longer have to use external login servers to work with the SoD and live clients simply change host to:

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5999

And login as if you would with Titanium/SoF

It means you can buy SoD from Steam and download it from there and NOT patch it. That is the only version of SoD that we fully support. A fully patched Live client can technically play on EQEmu as well, but it definitely isn't as bug-free as any of our non-patched supported clients (Titanium, SoF, SoD). Due to how often Live changes, the Live client will probably never be fully supported, but we do have most systems working for it. Each patch that is released from Live could potentially break that, and would require us to update stuff, and for anyone using a Live client to patch to Live again (which means you need a paid Live account to do so).
