Merchants Keep Items in DB

I was editing the database and found the variable: MerchantsKeepItems ...
Does this mean that the merchants keep items sold to them and never put them up for resale (destroys them) or that merchant keeps items sold to them and offers them back up for resale??

The description wasn't clear about that...

But, the vendor is limited to how many items it can put in its sell window. It will retain them in the table, but only show the items with *unlimited* first, then based on itemid(at least, that's how it has worked for me)

Correct, up to 80 slots displayed. The table will hold more than that, but only that amount visible at once.
