I have started back up on EQ since I just bought myself a 20gig hard drive. I then came here and downloaded the emu files, then went and downloaded mysql, then to the admin. I set it all up, it didn't appear on the server screen. I didn't feel like messing with it, so I went to play EQ, it makes an illigal operation, everything I try don't work (restarting computer, restarting EQ, reinstalling EQ) I then remove emu, reinstall EQ again, and it works....it works for about 5 days, i then come back and just download the emu files, start eq, BAM! makes an illigal operation again, had to remove emu, then reinstall EQ and it worked. I wouldn't think the emu would do that, but is it possible?

this all happened with version 3.6, then the last one was with 3.7

Wierd indeed...

The only thing i can think of is Texture Cacheing must be on (in fact, i bet ya a dollar i'm right :) )

If you load up EQEmu and play in a zone (lets say west freeport), you get a wfreport.txc (or something like that). I'm not exactly sure HOW these files are generated but thay are (possibly with some imput from the servers)...

Now if you go into EQLive and try to zone into west freeport, its not gonna try to load the zone files, its going to load up the wfreport.txc that the client made while on EQEmu servers, which it may not like.

If this is the case, delete all *.txc and *.tmp files in your EQ folder and then turn OFF Texture Cacheing.

Other than that, EQEmu doesnt alter EQ (but sometimes the client makes files while you play on EQEmu, such as character hotkey files, txc file, tmp files, a couple ini files, ect).

Texture Caching is off, I used it before and all it does is slow down the rest of my computer. (where's my dollar :p) Another thing, I never was able to log onto the emu, illegal operation happened there also. I got to server screen, clicks a server and it makes illegal operation. So even if texture cache was on, it wasn't in the game to do any caching :p But I checked options, it is off

edit: Just had to fix my faces, i did a :P instead of :p, hehe

Did you go and delete any txc and tmp files like i asked you too? :)

or at least look to see if there's any there.

I know for a fact your gonna have an eq.tmp file which is generated every time (pretty sure on that)..

if that doesnt help, try deleteing your eqclient.ini, and all *.opt files (do a windows file search and search your EQ dir for *.txc (delete all files), then *.tmp (delete all files), then *.opt (delete all files), then delete eqclient.ini by hand.

I don't have the emu installed anymore, I deleted that so I could play EQ. I might try it tomorrow, don't feel like going through the illegal operation, and having to reinstall EQ again, and going through the patch  Time for bed now, I will respond tomorrow or next day if I busy tomorrow, as to how it went with EQ. I can't search for them files, because the only way I could get rid of the illigal operation was to delete the EQ folder, not uninstall, just delete. If I did uninstall then it would still do illigal operation after I get back on. You better be right, or you can do the patch for me! lol

Are you crazy? don't tell me your using ONE (1, uno, a SINGLE) EverQuest folder for EQ and EQEmu..

LOLHAHAOMFGROFLLMAO.. with a 20 gig HD you need to have 4, 5+ EQ folders :)

yea, all i used was 1 when I ran my server. Then when EQ would patch, and emu would not work, that would just tell me I need a break and I go do other things. If there was no patch, this would probably be my life, and I don't want that. This is just a side thing for me.

Finally got around to doing this. Did everything your posts said, yes I found a .tmp file, I deleted it, and got an illigal operation. My server does show up on server select, i just can't play now :p I also have 2 EQ folders now! hehe

Another wierd thing that you may notice if you don't get illegal operations, is that some of the textures on objects gets very screwy. Like a black stripped skeleton on the ground, or funky barrels... prolly should turn that off, but i'm sooo lazy

I got pretty confused, I installed emu, then ran the copy I made of everquest, it made an illegal operation (never did anything with the emu at this point), I then ran the original in Program Files and it ran just fine. Its interesting.... My server did show on server select, i just couldn't get in because of the illegal operation. BTW, the copy of EverQuest did work before I installed the Emu....seems odd

This may seem like a newbie response...but it is worth trying.

Make sure you get all the updates for your OS, sound, video, and DirectX.

Just my 2 cents.
