View Full Version : 64 Bit server?
I'm looking to setup a server and wanted to see what i can and can't do. I see the guide is based on server 2003 32bit. Would server 2008 be supported, and is 64 bit windows supported?
Thanks

You can host it on 64-bit Windows, and probably want to for the availability of more ram if you have a lot of zones running, but it is a 32-bit application.
i haven't gotten far enough in the instructions so forgive me if this is answered someplace.
I am going to run this via VMWare ESXi 4.1 with 24gb of ram. Would i be better off running 1 64 bit server with a lot of ram, or a 2 - 3 32 bit servers running 4gb of ram?

I'm no expert, but as far as I know the login, world, and zone processes usually run on the same machine. You can run the database on a different machine if you like.
I suppose it depends on what you plan to use the server for. My personal server for testing with just a few clients runs fine with everything including the clients on one machine.

for security run 2 servers. For the emu setup 2 nics an external and an internal.
1 with sql and about 4gb of ram and the other with the emu with all of the rest of the ram.
Do them both 64 bit
setup the sql server so that it will ONLY accept connections from the static INTERNAL ip of the emu
Melkor that sounds like a good plan. I'll try to set it up that way. We'll see how it goes :)

When my server is up normally, it runs on three systems all runnning xp, 1 for world and sql, and 2 for zones. each only have max 1gb ram. with this setup i generally have about 120 static zones and 35 dynamic ones running.
