Im guessing the answer is no, and i bet there are tons of variables to it, but is it possible to create your own zones using worldcraft or something?

Am I a millionaire?

Maybe if you had all the WoW files, and then spent the time to figure out how the login and world runs, then if you had time to create a Emu.....it could be done. But no one has the above.

Nira, I think he is not talking about "World of Warcraft"........

Lol, I misread that! Thanks for pointing it out, but the point is still the same :D

Edit: Unless worldcraft is some variation of EQ.

World craft is used to make various maps for many FPS i play... halflife, counterstrike, tribes, and quake. wouldnt the same aspects apply spawn points, buildings, npcs?

Theoretically you could change the zone files or maybe even add more.

Not sure if they were created with worldcraft though, probably a homegrown program over at VI.

As long as you can give it all the info that the game is looking for then it *should* work.

Now what I really want to do is change the acceptable skins in each zone. That would allow me to play my Pixie Monk the way he should be played =)

FYI each zone has a checksum with it. If the checksum does not match it will not work. There was a dev here awhile ago that said that they were able to edit a zone and add content to it by reverse engineering the eqinside and zoneconverter. Never released it though. Showed a screenshot though of them in the game with a big teapot in the middle of EC. Was it real? Anything is possible.

ok thanks, a few friends and i are becoming proficient at skinning and modeling buildings for starseige: tribes. i put together a few maps with some of the buildings they made, would be intresting if we could make some new zones for eq :]

I know this is going off topic for EQ EMU but why not look into making your own game with your own engine. There are plenty out there. You mentioned tribes so I would suggest Torque. It will never compete with a MMO because of the network but if you are just designing a game and it is going to be multi player then Torque is your best option. Don't get me wrong EQEMU is great and without it I would have never thought in my wildest dreams that I would have my own EQ server but to add zones and such is just making a different game. Why not take the EQ client out of the picture to avoid legal stuff and go for something you can truely call your own. Here are links of several engines that are out there. Each has something unique to offer.

Torque (http://www.garagegames.com)
The Nebula Device (http://www.radonlabs.de)
CrystalSpace (http://crystal.sourceforge.net)
Ogre (http://ogre.sourceforge.net)

There are more out there but those are the ones I looked at that have what I was looking for.

Torque is a nightmare. I'll admit I haven't checked in the last 3-4 months, but back when I bought the license they had _ZERO_ documentation. Even the document that they said was 'comprehensive' gave a 2 sentence blurb about some high level classes and no level of detail on the interop between those classes.

The tutorial (singluar) and code are ugly. I know in the grand scheme of things when you compare Torque to Lithtech's engines, for $100 vs. $100,000 you shouldn't expect much but even given the price I felt like it was a waste of money.
