View Full Version : Question: Best Way to Build and Test Server Prior to Public Launch

Hi,

After reading the wonderful sticky on compiling the source, I was not able to configure my router to open the ports necessary to get everything freely flowing. (One of the routers needed a power cycle and the other needs a hard reboot...I went to bed when I finished the initial test and expect to get past that block tonight.)

However, this got me wondering:

What is the best way to test a server prior to making it publicly available? Is Mini-Login the way to go? (If so, can you link me to anything I would need to install/compile mini login?) Or, is there a way to do while using the eqemulator login servers?

Thanks ;-)

The easiest would be to use the EqEmuLogingServer here:

http://code.google.com/p/projecteqemu/downloads/list

When setting up the IP's, you want to use your IPv4 address in the eqemu_config.ini and eqhost.txt. Somehwere in the forums here, there should be a guide on how to set it all up.

Is there a Wiki for configuring the Login Server? and is it publicly updateable?

Depending on what is available, I'd like to contribute toward such a page with a few of the things I gleaned from wrestling with the server last night. In the end, I made the Login Server tap out....it cried like a bitch, but now it knows who's boss =P

Unless you plan on making a login seperate from the public one(ie offline play), then you never need to touch the eqemuloginserver.exe. The only things you need to run if you are using the public login server(which is by far the best way to run a server) is world.exe and zone.exe(via eqlaunch).

The wiki pages are all editable by everybody(just like most wikis) so if you want to update stuff then go for it.
