I changed the EQhost.txt file and added patchme onto the eqgame.exe in properties. when i clicked the exe file to open the game, the game starts to open, says EQ in the corner but then crashes saying it encountered a problem. what could be the fixes for this?

A lot of times you can mess with the resolution, sometimes the refresh rate. If you keep messing with it you can get it to go high res without crashing. All together though the newer clients like SoD, UF, SOF will run higher resolutions without crashing.

Which client version are you running, and is it a fresh install or do you have custom files from a specific server in your EQ folder already? Have you tried more than 1 server, and does the problem happen on all servers you have tried? You can check your EQ /logs/dbg.txt file to see if that has any useful information on the crash (and it also includes your client build date which is used to determine if you are using the right client). Also, where did you get your client from? It has to be from retail discs (Titanium or SoF) or from Steam downloads (SoD or UF), otherwise it is not supported here.
If you patched your client at all, it needs to be uninstalled and you need to delete the EQ folder completely and then reinstall it fresh for it to work properly. That is the next step you should do if you have tried everything else.
