I'm having trouble getting in-game voice chat to work on my server. I don't know whether there's something wrong with my server or my client configuration or if I just don't know what I'm doing.

My chatserver.exe seems to be working fine. Clients can see the channels they're in and the number of people in the channel in the main chat window. They are automatically added to appropriate channels like Antonica and NewPlayers. They can create their own channels. However I can't seem to figure out how to make the voice part work in the UI. In looking at the Voice Bar, the Talk button is always disabled, the Channels button always just shows 4 disabled buttons (None, Guild, Raid, Group) and the Options button takes me to the voice options. In the voice options, the only active control is "Disable/Enable voice chat". the input and output devices always show "Default System Device" and are disabled. If I go to windows control panel my default system devices seem fine for speakers and mic.

What I"m expecting is to see users in the Voice Users list in-game and for the Talk button to be enabled. I can't seem to find any conversations on the subject so it makes me think it's some obvious thing that I'm just not finding.

Anyone know how I can get my in-game voice chat working?

Thanks!

Currently this is not a feature.

And, due to SOE's partnership with Vivox, voice chat will never be a feature in the emulator, as they use too many non-open source protocols to implement it and to my knowledge no one has reversed Vivox voice protocols for any other games that use it.

Perhaps if Vivox were to go open-source we could consider it; it is not worth the effort at the moment to pursue it.

So is there anything that chatserver.exe is useful for beyond being a mail server?

Actually, chatserver and mailserver have been deprecated. The current mail and chat server is the UCS (Universal Chat Server), which combines both mail and chat into a single server. It is used for in game mail and in game chat channels such as /1 (or whatever), which is just another alternative chat group similar to guild, group, ooc, say, etc.

to be clear though, the UCS solution builds as "chatserver.exe"

Ok, that's actually getting me to my "what's it good for?" answer. the combined UCS is what I'm referring to and, yes, it is chatserver.exe. I did not know that you could do "/2 How's it going" to chat with the channels. I thought those channels were just for voice chat but I was fairly sure I didn't know what I was talking about. Now I get it and I'll keep booting chatserver.exe with my server. Thanks!

Ahh lol, I didn't know that. Been so long since I did a Windows build that used it and on linux I just start UCS.
