This RoF announcement through me way off! What version do I acquire, or can I use the version I have?

I have full retail EQ installed and updated, which is RoF I presume. I was about to uninstall it to download Titanium, but I come to EQemu for the first time in a long time and I find that Steam's RoF works (I presume I have this installed), though mine is not linked to my steam account

I want to play EZ Server, Stormhaven, etc that I played in the past. Did I pick a bad time to return? Id hate to download 2 versions of EQ, i'd screw something up.

That is explained in the playguide here:

http://www.eqemulator.org/wiki/wikka.php?wakka=PlayGuide

The RoF client you have is not compatible if you played Live since Jan 16th. You will need to download the Steam version which is a different client. Also, RoF is still very new, so not all server support it yet. Storm Haven does already, and EZ has updated recently but currently has RoF disabled for now (though Hunter will probably enable it before too long). There are more and more servers updating to allow RoF now as well.

Keep in mind that there are still a few issues with the RoF client, but overall it is still very playable. The remaining few issues are things that require a fair amount of work so it may still be a while before it is fully compatible, but we are working on it regularly. The main remaining issues are that you cannot add or remove augments (though existing ones in items still work fine), bazaar traders don't work, and the cursor buffer doesn't work, so if you get multiple items returned to you from a quest, you have to zone or relog multiple times to get all of the items off of your cursor. Other than that, everything else works really well so far.

Report bugs in the right thread, and they'll probably get fixed. :) It'd also be worth testing on another RoF server like PEQ or Stormhaven to make sure it's not just your server.

Is ROF still free? Last I checked it was like $39.99.

On live, everyone uses the same client. Buying RoF only changes the flag you have on your account for which expansions you own and what functionality you have available because of it, like being able to buy from the bazaar in any zone.

To clarify what lerxst2112 said; no RoF is not free. But, the F2P client is free on Steam and it is the same download you get if you purchase the RoF client via Steam. So, you only need the F2P client from steam, which is (obviously) free.

Worth noting is that the Steam download is currently a different version than the version of "RoF" that is compatible with EQEmu. We are trying to figure out the best way to deal with these updates, and will hopefully have a way to make the newer version(s) compatible as well. For now, if you don't already have the previous RoF version from Steam (before a the last couple days), you won't be able to get download the F2P from Steam and use it for EQEmu.
