Piracy is discouraged, and not allowed. The word "halp" is also discouraged.

I believe I still have an EQ combo disc set which is Original Ruins and Velious I think, Least thats what the discs have on the front of them.

Can I use that to install and run the 99 servers?

is titanium the emulator?

Boolean logic applies here, not fuzzy :)

The emulator is ~cored on the Titanium release specs, with modifications/additions made for later ones.

The only 'legal' client available at the moment is the Steam downloaded RoF one..but it is not currently
compatible with the server code.

If you were fortunate enough to get the 12/10/12 build of RoF, that one will allow you to get in the game on servers
that have enabled support. The current one has a build date of 02/11/13.

Is there a difference between the RoF that you talk about and the retro servers?

P99 only supports the Titanium client, which the only way to get that is to buy it after market. The other servers will probably support Titanium, SoD, SoF, and UF (sometimes called HoT). The first RoF release from Steam works on some servers, but it is not as well supported as the other clients. Currently there is no easy and legal (as in obtaining the client) way to play on EQEmu.

Many live servers were merged together. You'd probably have better luck finding information about that on the actual EQ forums.

I really want to upgrade my client as well. Is there nothing that can be done right now? I have the original SoF disc, and that is what I use. I would like Underfoot or better, from what I understand I am missing out on many aa's and extra hp's and such, I would really like to have that stuff as my warrior get's hit a few times and goes down like a little english school girl.

I have bought Underfoot 3X over, as I three boxed on live. Unfortunately I didn't even get it from Steam, I just let the patcher patch it in, so I have no working copies. I have no problem paying for another client, I just can't figure out where to get one. From what I understand the RoF client available at Steam now is not compatible?

Do I just need to wait until RoF is working?

That's totally dependent on what/where you want to play.

Some servers do not allow the use of newer clients (i.e. p1999)

On servers that do allow newer clients, they may not offer the newer content..and conversely, older content may not be available to
newer ones because of the way the client is coded.

I can't tell you whether or not to buy the new RoF client, but the free one available now will likely be compatible in the near future.

When RoF first came out, the emu was modified to talk to that client. Unfortunately, Steam modified that download back in February and
the new binary information has yet to be added to the emu's code.

As for RoF, it mostly works, but there are things that are still incompatible due to the changes made in the client back in the HoT
expansion. There is work in progress to adapt these changes..no deployment date set.

Thanks Uleat.

I do have a Titanium install in a different folder for P99, haven't really played there in a while. I play pretty much entirely on Peq.

Sof works pretty well, there are a few bugs that are somewhat annoying, I can deal with that but it has really been gnawing at me that I am missing out on some extra stuff.

I may just kill some time back on live and check in here every so often for a readily available client obtainable by legal means, I know this stuff takes some time.

I'm wondering if/when eq has reached a point in its life where it makes business sense for them to support the emu community. The project has been around for a decade now and isn't going away. They might benefit financially by releasing a stable emu friendly client to the market.

That would almost certainly never happen. Though, I do agree that they are missing a potential possibility for a decent financial benefit by not considering something new and similar to EQEmu. I think they could fairly easily put a system in place that would allow normal players to run their own customized servers similar to EQEmu, but being supported and hosted by SOE. If they do it right, they could possibly make a ton of money while letting other people do nearly all of the creative work for them. I think it could be ground-breaking and really push MMOs into their first big jump of Next-Gen games since MMOs were first created. There are games out there that try similar ideas, but it isn't nearly on the level that I would have in mind (which would be similar to how EQEmu works).

That is the route they are hinting with EQ Next now. Though it has been scrapped and restarted from scratch at least once.
