Creating new items

First of all...total newb with this stuff, but really eager to learn. I attempted to create a new item and I did something wrong. I looked at the items table and found an unused id...1261 i think. So I added a new row, assigned it an id of 1261 and created a new item. Now the shared_memory.exe crashes when it tries to load items. If i remove this row from the table, then everything works fine again.

I am guessing this is not the correct way to create a new item. Any insight or link to instructions would be greatly appreciated.

I use George's tools, eqitems .. copy an in game item then adjust stats name it what I want and save .. so far that's the only way I've done items. Good luck hope you get it working :)
Also if you use his tools just go to his page and read all he has lots of interesting tools to use. And you need his drivers on his page to use them, his instructions are good though and any problems I had I could search for a good solution here.
