View Full Version : Do level differences play a role?

Hey guys. I'm messing around with my server. Trying to balance it the best way I can. It seems to me that when I fight mobs with my bot group, it doesn't matter if the mobs con green, blue, or even red. It seems that red mobs just take a little longer to kill.

Now I haven't tried fighting mobs that are 20 or 30 levels higher. But on mobs even 4 or 5 levels higher, it seems spells still land for full, and melee hits still land just as often and as for much as they do on blue.

I know on live, the higher a mob is in relation to your toon, the less likely it is for your toon to hit with spells and melee. Is this still the case on EQEmu? I'm just worried that players will be able to go into zones 30 levels above their range and fight mobs down.

Level differences do, in fact, matter, they influence your capability of hitting a mob, 4 to 5 levels higher is not a valid range as that is JUST turning red, this also influences experience in some cases, once a mob turns grey you no longer receive experience, and if you do it's in a very minute quantity. I hope I helped some. Also, you can look around in the GitHub to possibly find code that verifies or disproves my statements, it's always the best guess.

Ok that makes sense. And you're right, I haven't had the opportunity to get a large sample size to know for sure, but I figured some other people on the boards like yourself had the knowledge.

Of course it's hard to tell how a real group will respond in certain situations until it actually happens. I'm using myself and a group of bots, which, while I'm sure they are close to real players in power, they also have the advantage of immediate response times. So I'm guessing they are close to players in what they can accomplish at certain levels, but they are a bit more efficient in that you don't have that one person who's tabbed out or ninja afk on your group lol.

Anyway, I apologize for the rambling. You answered my question. Thanks a bunch Kingly.
