All classes will start with 25-30ish custom spells at level 1.
But you can only learn the spells by augmenting your main gear slots with the required item.
When you equip the gear you learn the discipline / spell .. removing the item the spell / disc is removed.
You are allowed 8 spells from the normal gear slots. These augments can be quested to level up to higher stat versions of the augment that come with a higher rank of the spell / disc.
Each class has 3 LORE augments that grant a "special spell / disc"
example .. Giving warriors "Avatar" as their DPS version and "Guardian" as their tank type augment. You may only level up one of these augments since they are lore to each other.
The main 8 armor slots will not be upgraded but the augments will.. so the augments will carry the stats of the main armor.. this is so players don't augment 5 different breastplates with 5 different disciplines and they switch them quickly as use each discipline. Each slot will be lore including 2 different lore bracer slots.
The spell builds you choose are 100% up to you.. with 1 Ultimate spell per build and 8 spells total (counting the ultimate spell).
This idea sound interesting to any players out there? I have all perl finished I just need time to finish the spells and disciplines.

OH OH this sounds a lot like what zaela was doing with customization quest. Except zae had the spells on the gear, and not as augs. Also zae wrote it in Lua, not in perl. And CQ only had one class, which was "Adventurer".
I love the concept of it, it makes things much more diverse and interesting. Would you have the augments get upgraded themselves, or would there be upgrades dropped from later mobs and/or quests? If they just get upgraded themselves, would it be through platinum or through AA or some other point system?

I was thinking each rank would be upgraded differently. So first rank may be a quest.. 2nd rank may be a drop in a higher tier zone that combines with previous rank.
I am looking at the idea of weapon augments that change the texture of weapons as well. Which will be semi-rare to very rare drops depending on how badass they look. They will be type specific so you can only place dagger graphics into daggers and so on.
I am at the starting stage of development so some ideas may change slightly.

I agree with Udeni, this sounds a lot like what Zae was doing with CQ, but it also reminds me 100% of Final Fantasy VII with the materia effect. This was something I definitely wanted to do. Equip a Fire augment (Fire materia) and it would grant the Fire spell, a Blizzara augment grants the spell Blizzara and so forth. The idea with weapon graphics is also huge as it allows for even more customization with characters. Want to play more of a battle mage role, equip a massive mace with some rune/offensive type spells. I think this idea of a server would be awesome Nate.

I was aiming at a final fantasy feel for the equipping and leveling up of augments.. heh

Sounds interesting the way Mariomario described it of course mentioning final fantasy would make anything sound better anyway. I think it's a nice idea to toy around with. Bottom line it won't hurt to try and see how it turns out.

Have actually been working on something very similar heh. It's a cool concept, though the way I'm implementing it is that you will actually level the augments up like you do materia. Was inspired by Path of Exile as well. Get outta my head =P

Have actually been working on something very similar heh. It's a cool concept, though the way I'm implementing it is that you will actually level the augments up like you do materia. Was inspired by Path of Exile as well. Get outta my head =P I enjoyed the leveling up of materia in FF that was a nice feature.
Think if you could make actual spells level and evolve like materia that would be a really cool custom feature with different spell types evolving in different mannerisms.
If you could evolve in various stages say 3-4 stages or it could even depend on a case by case basis depending on the spell type heals, buffs, damage spells, ect...you might even additionally have spell specific leveling stages as well.
Buff spell example
Stage 1) Reduce the buff's cannot cast this spell on a character this level requirements by X.
Stage 2) Reduce the buff's cast time by X.
Stage 3) Increase the buff's duration by X.
Heal spell example
Stage 1) Reduce mana cost by X.
Stage 2) Reduce cast time by X.
Stage 3) Reduce casting interruption chance by X.
Damage spell example
Stage 1) Reduce casting interruption chance by X.
Stage 2) Reduce by resistance chance by X.
Stage 3) Increase damage by X.
A bit different than what NatedogEZ is talking about, but I believe some of it kind of falls along the same line as well. There are different possibilities in terms of how you go about it. He's utilizing special augs, but AA's, and Tomes, and focus effects among other things could be used as well.
As far as the spell stages examples I think you could create additional spells that you find and or get from via quests as a method of incremental upgrades. I think it would add a nice layer of customization to a server.

I have been working on this idea a bit more recently (but not a whole lot unfortunately)
Here are a few screenshots of what I am trying to polish... :)

Can you use that aug graphic change a 1h weapon to a 2h weapon graphic? It would be cool seeing the illusion of how dual wielding Executioner's Axe would look like on a troll or ogre even though the swing animations would be a bit different 2h vs 1h.

I see I was just curious. I've always wanted to see how some 2hand weapons would look if you could duel wield them and if you swung them with the 1h weapon animations. I think maybe the actual item graphics could be kept the same though and just the item type could be changed from 2h to 1h it's something I'd like to try at some point. I really like the idea of dual wielding a weapon graphic like a Oggok Cleaver, but also like the idea of using like a Velious lance with a shield as well a lot of stuff like that could look wicked neat and different.
You could probably even rebalance Bezerker class to be a class based around dual wielding 1h weapons that have the typical appearance of 2h weapons and those items would be class only weapons. I think skill caps would need to rebalanced a bit for that idea, but it would be quite cool and they could have some nice burst melee DPS probably could tie stamina drain to fluctuate how the burst damage is controlled so it's harder to sustain it's effectiveness in long fights, but great for short fights.
