Hi friends )

I am new!
After many forum searches I could not find this answer, could someone help me?
The FAQ said you could play EQ on your computer without a server.

Maybe I misunderstood but I thought this meant:
Without internet, saving files on computer playing game.

Why would I want to?
So I could learn how to code and make a version of the game for me to solo without ever worrying about loosing my items. (Like after I get 2.0). I just wanted a piece of EQ that was my own ... without paying 1k for a server ).

The FAQ doesn't say you can play without a server, it says you can play without having to setup a server:

Can I play EQEmu without setting up a server?
Yes. If you only want to play the game, you don't have to run a server.

This means, you can play on servers that other people run as long as you have an internet connection to connect to them. You don't have to worry much about losing items or progress as long as you are playing on one of the more stable servers such as the gold or green status ones. They have all been around for quite a while and will probably be around for quite a while from now.

If you want to play without an internet connection, then you will need to setup a server yourself on the PC you are playing on or on another PC on your same home network (LAN). You don't need to spend a bunch of money to run a server, as most PCs these days can easily handle running a server and playing EQ on the same PC at the same time without an issue.

Thank you for your quick reply.
While I am a little sad that I misunderstood the FAQ,
I am grateful for your response.
I look forward to playing on some of these servers ),
as I think setting up what you recommend seems beyond me atm.
Take care )

I run a solo server on my 2003 Dell 4700..3.2 GHz p4 (single-core with HT), 2.5 GB... (I've seen them go for <$50 on ebay)

I run all dynamic zones, so my loading time is a little longer..but, you shouldn't have any trouble if you want to host a local/private server.

That's like a million times better than the shit box I used for my private test server :P. So for yourself only you can get away with very little.
