I'm not sure what is happening. I haven't changed anything on my server or with my clients, hadn't even rebooted, and all of a sudden I am getting 'Error - a timeout occurred' whenever anyone tries to log on. I am using EMULogin on my own private server and haven't had any issues for months. Sometimes when I restart the client, it will let me in but the first time I zone, I get booted to login screen with the timeout error again. I have rebooted everything, server, router, pc etc. I have changed NIC cables (have not tried a new NIC yet). This is happening from outside my network as well. My friends get the same message when they try to log on.

Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be? I have no real error logs to speak of but occasionally I will see the errorcode 10054 pop up in one of the dos windows. I just tried updating the source, thinking maybe a file had corrupted, but that didn't help either.

Error 10054 means the connection was closed by the remote host.

Have you changed any software on your pc? Maybe it is being blocked by firewall or virus detection program?

Not to point out the obvious but are you using a static IP on the host PC and also your DNS is probably dynamic do you use a static host like no-ip?

Yes I use No-IP to host. I have tried disabling my AVG thinking maybe some update might have caused it but no go there. I even disabled the windows firewall (Win7 32bit) but that didn't help either. I did try a new NIC card and that wasn't the issue. I downloaded the newest cryto, still no luck. It has to do with my login server because I switched over to the public one and it works fine. I am stumped. No software has changed at all on the server. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Just FYI you don't hafto do them seperatly yky can have a dual login for private and public.baside from that you need to check your ports to make sure they are open. I know you checked the router but is use a port checker online to make sure. If its timing out there is a issue probably related to your modem or router. That's about the best I can think of without being there. If you can post your eqemuauth so we can make sure your settings are correct

I just read a statement on No-Ip's website that Microsoft seized some of their servers. This is probably what is causing the issue. I will monitor it and see if things return to normal. Thanks guys for all the help.

FYI - If anyone else is using No-IP for their hosting and are having the timeout error on trying to login, try adding another host. They had 22 of their most commonly used servers seized by Microsoft for Malware attacks originating there. I added a new host with a different domain and I am back up and running.

Have you considered dropping no-ip for a real DNS name? Dot TK (www.dot.tk) is one I use -free DNS names for the asking. They end (of course) in .TK . You can also get free domains that end in .ML (www.dot.ml). These doman names are under your control. You set the IP address they point to.

The only requirement is that you get at least 25 unique IP hits every 3 months, and they do charge for very short names, (i.e. eq.tk) but the rest are free.

Downside: if your IP address changes and you update your DNS entry, it does take a few minutes to trickle down so that it works again.
