View Full Version : At wits end...Titanium vs UF
Would love to get the expert opinions here. I losing my @*^*# mind trying to upgrade from the titanium client to UF. I cannot get the UF client to run at all and I am 90+% sure its a video issue. I am even using the exact same eqclient.ini file on both installations and titanium works fine and I can't even get to a login screen on UF. What is the best way to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks much in advance (goin crazy on this one).

You remembered to change the eqhost.txt file right?
for Titanium:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5998
for UF:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.eqemulator.net:5999
Yes, thanks...made sure I changed that one.

Try installing eqlive and getting that version of directx.
I have had that solve the issue with UF in the past.
I think I'm a bit closer now to the answer. It is indeed a DirectX problem. I created a VMWare virtual machine and the Underfoot client ran fine as there was only DX9 in the virtual guest. But the problem is the host is Win 8.1 with DX11 and UF won't work with that. I also tried loading DX9 in addition to DX11 and while it look like it installed, Underfoot still wont run :(
Any ideas of where I go from here?
I had to delete the eqclient.ini on my underfoot client, letting the client recreate it from scratch, before it would run.

What happens when you run DirectXTest.exe? It is in your EQ directory.
It comes back with a dialog box that says "Congratulations, you're all set for the DirectX 9.0c upgrade". What does that message mean? That 9.0c was successful?
Just tried deleting eqclient.ini and letting it recreate it. It created a new one but the client crashed with the same "instruction reference memory error".../sigh
this is all it placed in the new client.ini file. I saved the old one to revert back to.

Is there anything in the Logs folder, specifically, dbg.txt that is saying anything about an error?
If you get me a memory address, I can take a look at it.
There are two copies of UF obtained through illegitimate plundering. Are you using your own Steam install, or one of the two? The one you want is by "battleb".

Tudo might also try OptionsEditor change it to 800x600 and add the code below
FullscreenRefreshRate=0
Thanks Secrets. Here's what the dbg.txt contains. The memory address is 0x0376e086 referenced memory at 0x00000044. The 44 address is always the same.

Did you check the FAQ in my sig? You may just need to run eqoptions.exe to setup your video card to use for UF.
Also, what server are you trying to play on? I would suggest trying it on PEQ, EZ or Storm Haven as they definitely support UF client. If you are trying to play on P99, that may be your issues, since last I checked, they don't support UF client.
Yes, was trying on Storm Haven and Grand Creation, same error. Does anyone a file list with sizes that I can compare to my installation to see if i have all the correct files for a UF installation? Thanks.
Also since the exact same UF installation runs fine in a win 7 virtual machine but crashes in the native win 8.1 host, does that mean the issue is in the video card drivers ??

Did you say yes to my question about trying eqoptions.exe?

Just a random thought, but have you tried running WinEQ2?
Trevius: yes, i tried all the resolutions listed in the options editor and it would still crash on client start. Thanks tho.
Ward3: good suggestion as well, so i loaded up eqwin2 and it worked perfectly under that software.
So, thus far I have the UF client that won't run natively on Windows 8.1, but runs perfect either through WinEQ2 or VMWare (Win7 Guest). So do these facts narrow down what is causing my issue??
