Vanishing characters after windows format?

Started a new thread for an entirely different question. so i just redid/reformatted my operating system. and the level 2 tutorial character i made vanished. now there arent any made characters on the character list. How do i prevent them from vanishing when ever i have to reinstall windows again?>

Characters are stored in your mysql/mariadb database, with various aspects of them spread across several tables. If characters disappear when you reinstall Windows, then you most likely didn't fully back up your eqemu database and restore it after the reinstallation.

Huh. It looks like Akka's repack comes with a pre-made backup script for that. Nice, Akka.

Look for "t_backup_server_database" under:

C:\EQ - AKKA'S PEQ REPACK\EQEMU SERVER\

Running that (I assume you can run it with a simple double-click from Explorer) looks like it should make a backup of your database in the Backups folder inside there.

when i try to open the t_backup_server_database as in the akka repack. it quickly says error occurred...exiting. then vanishes. it wont stay open long enough to read any of it except that. what do i do to fix that?

Well, easiest way is to do it the HeidiSQL way, since Akka's Repack installs that as well. Find the HeidiSQL icon in your start menu / screen (it's green and yellow) and open it. Log in with the credentials in the <database> section of your eqemu_config.xml. Right-click the database containing your eqemu tables, and choose "Export database as SQL" as shown in Kingly_Krab's screenshot.

It should default to Create Database, Create Tables, Export All Tables, Structure + Data, and Single .sql file.

Tell it where you want the backup .sql file to go (it might even have a default set for that) and start it up. Takes a minute or two. You can .zip the resulting .sql file to save disk space if you need, since it's just a huge text file.

Don't try to open it in Notepad. Hahaha.

The on-screen dialog is self-explanatory - but, selecting #3, then #3 again, will give you a straight-through update.

That quote is from the setup guide (http://wiki.eqemulator.org/p?Complete_Windows-based_Server_Setup_Guide&frm=Main)..which you may have missed using the repack.

The menu is telling you that you need to press '3' again to apply the updates.

reason i was trying to update is because. when i go into the game. start the tutorial at mines of gloomingdeep. every character i make. ends up in a spot on the map they're not suppose to right when i zone in. and get stuck. and its all glitchy. if the updates are okay. then how do i fix zoning in to a stuck character everytime?

As far as the update menu, if your db is up-to-date, you shouldn't be getting the menu..only a quick blip in the console window
saying that updates are being checked.

If you're getting the menu and it's saying you need to update..then it doesn't let you..that is odd...

Thanks for the information. i only speak english. Lol and i am using The titanium setup i downloaded... maybe thats the problem? maybe its not the most stable maps for glooming deep mines..or?.. maybe theres another bundle like underfoot client download or something which makes it more stable? Youd probably know.!

I can't comment on where to get a client, other than to say there are purchasable disc sets for Titanium and Secrets of Faydwer on ebay... (Nor, should you ask...)

We can't control where people get their game copies..but, we have to enforce that the conversation doesn't occur.


That said, it does appear that the Seeds of Destruction and Underfoot clients are the recommended clients for the repack..though, it does support others.

If you are still having problems with those .sql updates not being applied, you could do them manually in HeidiSQL or Navicat (haven't used) and it is a simple yet tedious process.

All of the missing files should have been automatically place in this folderC:\<your server directory>\Source\utils\sql\git\required

"<your server directory>" is Akka's repack or w/e it is called. Hopefully the rest is accurate to that.

You can use the UI in either of the above programs to find and run the queries.

As far as backing up, I think it's great the repack comes with something. I also think learning how to do it on your own from K-Krabs suggestion is a good idea.

One thing to add that I take for granted:

If you do this manually, make sure you click on the appropriate database you want the updates to get applied into. For HeidiSQL, a green check mark will indicate the DB being used. Navicat looks similar in that the DB icon thingy becomes green.

In HeidiSQL, the window's title bar also shows what database you're working with.
