The last I could see was this was talked about 3 years ago. Has anyone came up with making this work offering added bonuses or anything? If I missed something please let me know

Cash shop I believe. Although, implementing it here will clearly have to not be a cash shop. (don't want big scary lawyers coming after you)

I did find a forum post (http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=24905&highlight=marketplace) about a bazaar upgrade (titled marketplace), but it was from 2008 which is a bit older than the OP mentioned.
* Edit: Ah wait, it's probably this post (http://www.eqemulator.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37532&highlight=marketplace) which is from 3 years ago. Yeah, not really going to happen as that goes a bit beyond donations.

A cash store "shouldn't" (key word there) attract legal attention. The products are virtual in nature and the server itself is still free to play. EZ, Valyndria, and several other servers sold in games items for cash without issue (that I know of).
* I'm not a lawyer, I'm definitely not licensed in your state, absolutely nothing I say should be taken serious. This entire post is fictitious and was recorded on a closed race course using professional drivers *

You can *sell* stuff in game, however not to make a profit, you are meant to upgrade your server with money that is spent on your items in game, which is why they are called donations, I believe what the agreement is (don't quote me, because I don't exactly know) is 'You can accept donations, but only to further upgrade your server.'

Yeah but there is a clear difference between donations and putting a price on something. I'm more interested in the gray area that is selling something specific.
