Login account name issue

I get a db error username password error. I know I did not forget my password, because I used it to change my password, and I still get a username. it is an old account and apparently account names cant be four characters any longer.

Please do not change my username.

I guess I have no choice but to add a 1 to my username or something?, I have even reset my password.

is there not a solution?
