View Full Version : Testing out a new idea

Taking reference from the great work that many that have come before have done, I'm testing on a new private project. Mainly influenced by EQClassless and "that which shall not be named".
Key changes:
1. Everyone will start off as a base Ranger class (regardless of Race selection - Ranger simply because it's a melee class that has mana)
2. Stats and racial bonuses still apply
3. All items can be equipped regardless of Race or Class
4. At each level, player is awarded with 3 Spell Tokens per level gained
5. New NPCs will sell "upto player level" spells that players use these Spell Tokens to scribe
6. All spells are available to the players to choose from these NPCs
7. All skills are available to the players
8. Undecided still on how to handle AAs
Still working through the kinks but Steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are already working as intended.
Has anyone tried doing something similar?

Update:
- New Spell NPCs now only displays the spells that the player can scribe (up to their level) and selecting that spell automatically deducts 1 Spell Token and scribes into the Spell Book.
- Created 5 Spell NPCs that handle different categories of spells (Healing, Buffs, Debuffs, Damage etc)
- Attempting to scribe a spell already known will get rejected
- All AAs are available across the board to the player. With AAXP and EXP set at normal rates, it will take a while to grind out all the AAs.
- Level cap is set at L80
Intent is to have players play like a blank canvas, picking up skills they think they need/want as they progress.

Got it all up and running. So far character is Level 10. At this level, feels quite "God" mode. Hopefully it feels more challenging from L20/L30 onwards.
1. All classes revert to a Ranger-base
2. All spells are available to buy, scribe, mem, cast
3. All items are usable/wearable
4. All AAs are available
5. No special spell-NPCs. Player buy spells directly from existing vendors
6. Bots are enabled
7. NPC Melee and Spell damage reduced to 30%, Death Touch spells reduced to -6000 (will need to test more to see if it's become too easy)
Unfortunately (if anyone can advise how to fix this, thank you!):
a. Class skills are not transferable (i.e. Ranger can't learn Backstab)
b. Spellbook is limited to 99 pages. If player buys every single spell per level, book space might run out....... (might create an NPC to unscribe the spellbook so player can re-purchase only the spells they want when they are at a higher level)
c. Tried to change the starting equipment to include 1x 20-slot bag and a "Plane of Knowledge hearthstone" but can't find where to edit this
Just some updates in case anyone's looking for ideas.

Next update:
- starting equipment has been updated with the 20-slot bag and PoK hearthstone
- players can now buy discipline tomes from all the vendors, scribe and use them if their level permits (disc timers still apply)
So, this project now summarises as:
1. All classes revert to a Ranger-base
2. All spells are available to buy, scribe, mem, cast
3. All items are usable/wearable
4. All AAs are available
5. No special spell-NPCs. Player buy spells directly from existing vendors
6. Bots are enabled and working
7. NPC Melee and Spell damage reduced to 30%, Death Touch spells reduced to -6000 (will need to test more to see if it's become too easy)
8. All disciplines are available to scribe and activate (disc timers apply)
9. Starting equipment include a 20-slot bag and a PoK hearthstone
Not a public server. Just my private playground but posting this in case anyone gets ideas from what I'm doing.
