I did everything this site told me to do to play on other people's servers. I dled the EQEmu files and extracted them into my EverQuest folder. I changed the eqhost.txt to the one suggested on this site and then I created a shortcut to eqgame.exe using the "C:\program files\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme method. When I try to connect to the game I get a message saying I don't have an eqhost.txt file in my EverQuest directory but I do.

did you set up all the files the right way?
if you dont have IRC click on the IRC link on the main page and download it click here if you have IRC
http://www.eqemu.net/index.php?irc
then once your in type !help after that read what is says then type !eqfix it will show you a website right click on the website then go to open and it will ask you if you want to download after you have done that open the eqfix.zip then open your everquest folder. then highlight all the files in the eqfix.zip click and hold on them and slowly move your mouse to the everquest folder you opened then let go it show unzip them to your everquest folder a error will come up asking if you want to over write some file click on the yes button then it should work.

One thing about windows that I suspect screws a lot of people up is the hiding of file extensions. Go find eqhost.txt in your everquest dir, and rename it to ... well eqhost.txt What your trying to look for and fix is if it is named eqhost.txt.txt

Also to play on other peoples servers you only need eqhost.txt and the files in eqfix.zip (to get you to the proper patch date)
